Teaching Philosophy

Music has been at the core of my development as a person. It has taught me discipline, confidence, patience, and more. Above all else it has taught me the joy that can be found in honing an art form that holds so much emotion. My goal as an educator is to introduce the joy that can be found in music, and to help students find and hone their unique musical voice. I teach my students how to build the mental and physical dexterity required to effectively use their instrument as a way to express themselves through music.

Musical Education

I am currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Music program at MacEwan University, majoring in music composition. I have studied guitar privately with many teachers since I was eight years old, and continue to take private lessons to further my education. I have experience with a wide variety of styles including Jazz, Blues, Rock, and Classical music. I have been performing professionally since I was 16 years old in multiple rock bands as well as other ensembles.

Special Skills and Trainings

I began studying guitar at eight years old. Since that time I’ve studied with dozens of teachers, and have developed my skills beyond guitar and found interest in a multitude of musical fields of study. I have studied jazz with some of the finest jazz musicians in Canada. I have developed my skills as a rock musician through years of gigging Edmontons rock scene. More recently, I have developed my skills as an Oud player, and have studied the intricacies of Middle Eastern and North African music with Doctor of Ethnomusicology, Ahmed Al-badr. All of these performance studies have also heavily influenced my work as a composer.

Our Promise to You

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.

Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.

When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.

Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:

Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice

Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
