Teaching Philosophy

I aim to make music an exciting and enjoyable experience for my students. I believe that music is not just a subject to be taught, but an essential artistic expression of a person. My teaching philosophy as a music educator revolves around igniting a love for music, fostering curiosity, and building a strong foundation in music skills. Through engaging and interactive lessons that is tailored for individual students, I aim to spark interest in music and find "what is fun for them" first. By providing comprehensive instruction, personalized guidance, and a supportive environment, I strive to empower my students to become not only skilled musicians but lovers of music.

Musical Education

I am pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree in Classical Voice Performance at the University of Toronto (UofT). I studied piano privately from the age of five and achieved the ABRSM Grade 8 in piano. I have been singing in choirs since the age of six, and started taking private lessons at 15 in Hong Kong, and achieved Distinction in the ABRSM Grade 8 in singing. I have competed and won in numerous singing competitions at the Ontario National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), The Association of International Music and Arts (AIMA) Fukuoka, Hong Kong Music Festival, Hong Kong A Cappella Contest, and the Busan Choral Festival & Competition with the school choir and as a soloist. I have been a private vocal teacher since 2024 working with adult students with piano and voice, and I am currently a student ambassador under the UofT Faculty of Music and member of the UofT Hart House Student Music Committee. I am also working as a Church cantor, leading warmups for the elderly community choir and singing descants. I was a student volunteer for the UofT Summer Conducting Symposium in 2023 and have worked closely with the RCM Oscar Peterson School of Music as a summer camp volunteer with children aged 7-12 in 2022.

Special Skills and Trainings

During my childhood, I found myself utterly consumed by the world of music. Whether I was seated at the piano, passionately singing in choirs, or taking on solos, music was my constant companion. These formative experiences have driven me to become a dedicated performer and an aspiring teacher, eager to share the joy of music with others. It is my firm belief that music has the potential to touch hearts, enrich lives, and foster a deep sense of connection, and I am committed to nurturing this love and appreciation for music in all those I have the privilege of teaching. I love meeting new students and teaching at different levels, I hope to learn something new from you as well and make music together!

When You're Under the Weather
