I have a deep passion for teaching that I have honed in my years teaching abroad. My goal with every student I teach, regardless of subject is to the meet the student's needs with regards to their learning style. If I can find the right approach to get them engaged and learning effectively then it becomes both intrinsically educational and fun! That is the foundation for proper education and something I continuously strive for in every lesson I teach.
I have a Bachelor's of Music with a Specialization in Education from the University of Ottawa which included performance classes on trumpet and voice, sight-singing and dictation, as well as music theory and history. I studied trumpet from the age of 12 both privately and in school. In high school I began singing in the choir and continued in my years at university. Additionally I began to study the piano in university and have enjoyed pursuing it at my own pace since then.
When I discovered my purpose in life was to be a musician I poured everything I had into it. I tried to experience as much of it as possible from as many different approaches as possible and that has allowed me to develop a very open perspective on what music is and what it can do in this world. As a young musician in high school I branched out into voice which resulted in my participation in both choir and the school's musical in my graduating year. I have played trumpet in various styles and learned from incredible colleagues and professors during my university years. Most recently I was fortunate to spend 6 years teaching English in Japan which has vastly expanded my understanding of education and the different ways students can learn best.

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.
Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.
When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:
Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice
Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
