Teaching Philosophy

Music is life, life is music. I have boiled down the miracle of music to a basic equation -- R(hythm) X L(yricism/melody) = (expressed through) S(ound). Rhythm is something visceral, a repetitive motion made by our body while we play/sing. Lyricism is the human ability to sustain a melody, to tell a story (in one's mind). Music encompasses one's whole being -- our mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual bodies -- all at the same time! Meditating on musical practice is of immense benefit at every stage of life. And, I believe music is a gift to be freely given. My students only pay me for my time.

Musical Education

I have attended the following schools and earned the following degrees: - Hochschule fuer Musik in Detmold, Germany - began cello studies - Medicine Hat College - Music Diploma in cello - Royal Conservatory of Music - ARCTs in performance in both the piano and cello My principal teacher was cellist/vocalist Robert Bardston who studied in Germany from Andre Navarra. He taught me the cello, the principals of music, and how to sing (among many other things).

Awards and Distinctions

Just many First Place awards in both the cello and piano in Vancouver's music festivals (primarily Kiwanis) while growing up.

Special Skills and Trainings

Besides the above-mentioned vocal training, my cello teacher Robert Bardston gave me, I have been composing 'jazzy-classical musical theateresque art rock' since I was 21. I produced a 'rock opera' as a multi-media stage production in Vancouver in 2005, and now am looking to produce my rock opera's overture album with the intention that in a few years its cinematic version will be made.

Our Promise to You

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.

Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.

When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.

Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:

Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice

Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
