Tiffany - BAH Teacher #3953

About Tiffany
I hope that by teaching music, I am able to impart the same joy I felt when I first started playing piano to my students.

I have been playing piano since I was very young, and I remember the joy I felt when I fiddled with my toy keyboard and managed to figure out the notes to "Mary Had A Little Lamb". I remember begging my parents to enroll me in piano lessons, picking out a keyboard, and practicing for two hours everyday after school. It was not all sunshine and rainbows however, as I, like many other musicians, experienced burnout, and attempted to quit multiple times. However, by continuing with my musical journey, I met many other musicians and through continuing to improve my skills and play new pieces, I eventually rediscovered that feeling that made me start my lessons over 15 years ago. Music has brought me so much joy in my life, from listening to various genres, putting on solo recitals, and collaborating with other musicians. Piano has made me more disciplined, more independent, and has proven to be a great source of anxiety relief on days where I'm feeling sad or angry. I hope that by teaching music, I am able to impart the same joy I felt when I first started playing piano to my students. I hope that students will be able to discover why they enjoy making music, and even if they do not stick with their lessons, I hope they continue to make music and understand the importance of keeping music in their lives.

Name: Tiffany (Full name will be provided upon registration)

Age: 22

Gender: female

I have an Honours BMus in Piano Performance from Western University which included classes collaborating with other instruments/voice. I have been studying piano since the age of 6 and took piano pedagogy classes throughout high school as well as during university. I have taught a wide range of ages from young beginners to more advanced teenagers as well as adults who were looking to begin piano.

I continually participated in my old piano studio's festival every single year, and though the categories were small, I believe I have built up the grit needed to perform on a stage by myself. I am far too familiar with performance anxiety and want to help students learn to cope with the jittery feelings and cold fingers that happen before a recital. I studied under many teachers (10 and counting!), and have picked up many techniques over my 15+ years of study. Through my private study, I made my way through all 10 RCM levels and completed up to my RCM 10 in History and Piano as well as my RCM 9 in Harmony. I am very comfortable with the RCM method and it's syllabus, and can guide my students through the books well and prepare them for exams if need be.

Rates and Studio Policies
Registration Fee: $25.00 (One-time lifetime registration fee may be used by all family members)

Rates for instruction:
30 minute private lesson: $39.00
45 minute private lesson: $49.00
60 minute private lesson: $59.00

Travel charge: additional $15.00 per visit (for lessons in a client's home as opposed to my studio)

1. Cancellation Policy
Lessons not cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice are billable to the client and payable to the teacher. This does not of course apply to travel fees unless the notice is effectively given at the door and the teacher has travelled to the location.

2. Cessation (quitting) Policy
A client must provide a 2 lesson notice period to stop lessons. So a weekly student needs to give 2 weeks of notice, a biweekly student works out to 3 weeks notice and a twice weekly student works out to a week of notice.

3. Illness Policy
Lessons cancelled due to illness or extraordinary circumstances with less than 24 hours notice remain billable to the client and payable to the teacher.

BAH teachers are encouraged to offer a make-up lesson at a future date in the interest of client relations and general goodwill. This only makes sense as teaching a student with the flu for example, will ruin the rest of your week's employment.

No more than 2 lessons may be made up due to illness within a 60 day period.

4. Rescheduling Policy
Any lesson can be cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice.

Summer Vacation and Extended Absence Policy

Clients may schedule longer absences for trips etc. 24 hours notice is required.

It is normal and typical for students and about 20% of our teachers to schedule a break in the summer. We do not enforce a notice period (see cessation of lessons) at the end of a long summer break.

5. Evaluation Period
There are no free trial lessons with Beethoven at Home but we do offer a 2 lesson evaluation period where it is easy to try out a teacher. There are no free lessons during the evaluation period and clients may choose to discontinue the lessons at any time by providing the required 24 hours notice. After the student's 3rd lesson the required 2 lesson notice period will apply (see cessation of lessons above).
