Music has been always been a big part of my life. I would sing karaoke with my parents as a child, and now I play in bands and write my own songs. I believe we’re all born with an innate love of music. Formal training only helps us to develop a deeper appreciation for it, as well as an understanding of ourselves and our personal tastes. Music also grows with us— I started out classically trained, and then branched out into genres like jazz. No matter what phase of life I’m in, I can always come back to music. At their core, music lessons are about having fun, and shouldn’t cause any stress or anxiety. Having once went through lessons myself, I understand all the undesired feelings that can come with trying something new, and aim to create as comfortable an environment as possible. Many of my students are young children, but I also teach adults and seniors. I still connect with my former piano teacher, and aim to build the same relationship with everyone I teach, so we connect not only as student and teacher, but also as friends.
I am currently a first year student at UBC, working towards a BA anthropology and minor in music. I studied piano from the age of four until thirteen, and was classically trained through the RCM system. In that time frame, I completed RCM Level 10, Advanced Rudiments and Harmony.
I learned classical repertoire from my teacher, and branched out into jazz by listening to my dad’s CDs and watching old clips of Bill Evans on Youtube. I am a teacher, but I am also a lifelong student, and I want to be familiar with as many genres as possible. In addition, I play the electric bass, electric guitar, and violin. Being familiar with different instruments and playing in bands has helped me to appreciate balance and the role of different instruments, which I am able to bring into my lessons. I love to improvise and play by ear! Most of what I play nowadays comes from listening to the radio and working things out.

Getting Started Together

Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.
When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.

Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
