Teaching Philosophy

Having witnessed the profound impact of music in young individuals' lives, I recognize the significance of imparting skills that extend beyond simply learning music. My lesson plans are designed to instill confidence and foster a genuine love for the art form. Through these plans, students gradually develop the ability to perform any piece using the practice strategies they've acquired. I firmly believe in the power of positive reinforcement and adaptability to meet the unique needs of each individual. Recognizing that everyone learns through different methods and explanations, I strive to tailor my approach accordingly. My ultimate goal is to create a fun and supportive environment that allows for personal growth to emerge organically from the student. By providing guidance and encouragement, I empower my students to take ownership of their musical journey and discover their true potential.

Musical Education

I hold a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Calgary, and a Master of Music at the University of Alberta. My musical journey began with piano lessons at the age of seven, which continued until I was sixteen. However, my main instrument is the clarinet, which I started playing at twelve and continued studying through my master's. During my musical journey, I actively participated in marching band programs within Calgary for eight years. This experience has given me a deep understanding of the valuable skills that music brings to the lives of young individuals. While focused on becoming a conductor, I still maintain my performance experience by conducting various community groups. This balance between conducting training and performance keeps my passion for music alive and enriches my overall musical experience.

Special Skills and Trainings

My experience as a woodwind instructor for five years in a marching band has been invaluable in developing my ability to approach different students and situations without judgment. Working with school clinics has further enriched my teaching skills, as I learn directly from the students about their specific needs and challenges. I am committed to constantly improving myself as an instructor, as this directly benefits my students and helps me better meet their unique learning requirements.

Our Promise to You

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.

Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.

When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.

Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:

Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice

Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
