Teaching Philosophy

Music has been with me all of my life and has given me so much in terms of benefits. I feel compelled and inspired to share the gifts of music with others through teaching. Aside from building skills on a particular instrument, music education can help people in so many ways such as keeping the brain sharp, bringing one a feeling of joy and happiness and building confidence in one self, to name a few. My goal and my aim as a teacher is to constantly and consistently inspire students with a love of music. This is most important, as a love for music is the best motivator to help one achieve their musical goals. I do this through positive reenforcement, minimizing any undue pressure or anxiety. The main takeaway from my music lessons is always the students enjoyment, while fostering their own love of music.

Musical Education

I attended Vancouver Community College from 1999-2001 and studied under their music program. This included classes on performance, theory and classical and jazz harmony. I studied private piano, guitar and bass lessons from the age of 7 until I went to College at age 19. I have studied with many luminaries of the Vancouver and Toronto classical and jazz community. The training was very detail oriented and instilled in me a love for music education. I have performed all over Canada, the US and the United Kingdom, including recordings for BBC and CBC.

Our Promise to You

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.

Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.

When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.

Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:

Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice

Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
