Teaching Philosophy

Music is very important to me as a human, and it is important for others to explore their talents and use them for personal benefit. I believe in creating a safe space for others where they can express themselves and be free to be who they were intended to be. When teaching, I intentionally ask how they are, which usually gets the lesson going. We then do warmups and work on their songs that need working on. If they are younger than 6, we tend to break up the lesson with movement and music and then piano for a wee bit. I do not want the lesson to be stressful for the student, and I want them to have fun and enjoy themselves while they are learning. Music is about being creative and having fun, but also something that can become therapeutic and an escape from the reality of the world for a bit. It has been something that I have always found joy in since I was a young being, and I hope the same can be said for others and those I teach.

Musical Education

I have attended the following schools earning the following degrees: Briercrest College and Seminary -Associate of Arts in Music Ambrose University: Bachelor of Arts in General Studies Majority of my credits on my Transcript are all music related and voice lessons were a big part of that. I have studied music since I was 6 years of age. Piano lessons where I took up to Grade 6 RCM and could not keep taking lessons as I could not afford it. I started taking voice lessons when I was 19, and have been singing for 18 years now. My voice teacher is trained in many facets and she was highly recommended at the time. I have lots of experience in technique for singing properly. I am classically trained I have had experience singing in choirs and doing musicals in college at Briercrest, as well as leading in church settings.

Special Skills and Trainings

I have had experience working on stage and done a bit of musical theatre in the community when I lived in Caronport, Saskatchewan. For most of my life I was often taken to musicals, where my love for music and teaching came. I trained for piano at someone's house, but my piano came more from training myself at home. I have done a couple of festivals in the past. I did the Moose Jaw music festival and Songfest through NATS a couple of years ago.

Lessons on an online platform

Rachel can provide online instruction. While other platforms are possible BAH strongly recommends the use of the Zoom video conferencing platform as it is optimized for music lessons and audio quality.

Our Promise to You

Getting Started Together

Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.

When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
