Teaching Philosophy
Music can be fulfilling and transformative when we express ourselves through sound with fluency and physical freedom. Mastering the art of playing this way opens the door to a lifetime of musical enjoyment. I encourage exploration, initiative and creativity during the lessons and provide listening and practice strategies for students to develop self-direction in learning at an early stage. An important goal in my teaching is that students engage at a physical, mental and emotional level with their pieces so they learn to play expressively. There’s a focus on understanding the interaction of music elements and moods, the use of stories and images linked to the music and the awareness and control of physical movements. In providing feedback I aim for constructive language that encourages students to listen to themselves actively and motivates them to make improvements in their playing. I strongly believe a friendly, stress-free environment allows students to feel uninhibited and free to make mistakes and ask questions - both indispensable steps for learning.
Musical Education
I have a Master of Music from Western University, where I studied with John Hess. My major was in Literature and Performance with emphasis on Collaborative Piano. I received my undergraduate degree in Piano Performance from A.M. Valencia Conservatory in Cali, Colombia with Maria Isabel Benitez, who had studied in the United States and in the UK. I began my musical studies with Sandra Marin at the Jaime M. Mola Conservatory in Quito, Ecuador, and afterwards studied for four years with the Cuban pianist Antonio Carbonell who was trained in Russia.
Awards and Distinctions
I won the Research-Performance Competition “Revive Our Music” led by the National University of Colombia and was selected to record unpublished music by early 20th century Colombian composers.
Special Skills and Trainings
In the course of my musical career, I have enjoyed being an active collaborator, playing with different instrumentalists, singers, choirs, baroque ensembles and opera. From early on, I pursued a parallel interest in teaching and have continued to update my pedagogical practices through various music and pedagogy courses, developing efficient teaching skills and broadening my insights into how students learn best, and how to make the learning experience enjoyable for different individuals.

Associate Teacher Lesson Rates:

- 30 minutes: $39
- 45 minutes: $49
- 60 minutes: $59
Home visit fee: $15 minimum fee. Teachers may negotiate a higher travel fee if the travel distance is longer than they are comfortable with. Most arrangements use the minimum fee.
One-Time Family Registration: $25. This covers your entire family for life - once you're in, everyone can take lessons!

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.
Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.
When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:
Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice
Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
