I hold a strong belief that ongoing musical education can greatly enrich one's appreciation of the arts, regardless of the specific discipline. Beyond merely mastering an instrument, my ultimate goal as a teacher is to foster a deep appreciation of music that transcends boundaries and connects souls on a global level. This is what captivates me about playing the piano and engaging with music in general. Whether you aspire to be a professional musician or simply want to add some magic to your daily life, music has the power to speak fascinating "languages" to both ourselves and others! For both young learners and adults, my focus is on cultivating musical interests and expressivity while offering challenges to expand their musical horizons. Drawing from my training in dance, visual arts, and voice, I tailor my teaching approach to match individual learning styles and personalities. Fun is key! Alongside the enjoyment of music, I firmly believe in instilling knowledge of theory and piano techniques to unlock the full potential of musical expression. Having received extensive training in piano techniques in China, I am committed to helping my students develop strong artistic techniques that will serve them well in the long run. For advanced students, I am eager to provide technical tips to elevate their playing to new heights!

Name: Nancy (Full name will be provided upon registration)

Age: 28

Gender: female

I hold a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Alberta, as well as an impressive Grade 10 certification (Excellence in Performance with 90 & above) from the prestigious Chinese Central Conservatory of Music. Throughout my musical journey, I have been guided by exceptional mentors. Notably, Patricia Tao, who holds degrees from Harward, Indiana, and Stony Brook universities, has been a profound influence on my artistic development. Additionally, I have had the privilege of studying under Joseph Fridman, a talented musician with dual master's degrees in piano performance and opera directing from the renowned St. Petersburg Conservatory in Russia. Their mentorship has been invaluable in shaping my passion for music and nurturing my artistic expression.

Throughout my childhood, I immersed myself in various artistic pursuits, including ballet, sketching, and choir singing, alongside my passion for piano. My talent in visual arts was particularly recognized by my art teacher, who encouraged me to pursue it as a potential career. In addition to my diverse interests, I explored Latin and K-pop dance, sharing my knowledge by teaching it to others during my time at University. My dedication to music also extended to voice training under the guidance of a renowned opera singer, which provided me with valuable stage experiences. Joining the University Concert Choir further honed my vocal abilities, shaping my voice to its fullest potential. My love for the arts is undeniable! An enriching experience that left a lasting impact on me was my involvement in the International Friendship Group, a club at my university. This incredible opportunity exposed me to a diverse and global community, allowing me to connect with individuals from various cultures and backgrounds. It was a truly eye-opening experience that I believe has equipped me with valuable insights to better serve my students. As a person, I am highly extroverted and approachable, eager to listen and understand your concerns, goals, and dreams with music. I firmly believe that learning is a collaborative process between teacher and student, and I am thrilled to embark on this musical journey together. Let's learn and grow together!

Rates and Studio Policies
Registration Fee: $25.00 (One-time lifetime registration fee may be used by all family members)

Rates for instruction:
30 minute private lesson: $39.00
45 minute private lesson: $49.00
60 minute private lesson: $59.00

Travel charge: additional $15.00 per visit (for lessons in a client's home as opposed to my studio)

1. Cancellation Policy
Lessons not cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice are billable to the client and payable to the teacher. This does not of course apply to travel fees unless the notice is effectively given at the door and the teacher has travelled to the location.

2. Cessation (quitting) Policy
A client must provide a 2 lesson notice period to stop lessons. So a weekly student needs to give 2 weeks of notice, a biweekly student works out to 3 weeks notice and a twice weekly student works out to a week of notice.

3. Illness Policy
Lessons cancelled due to illness or extraordinary circumstances with less than 24 hours notice remain billable to the client and payable to the teacher.

BAH teachers are encouraged to offer a make-up lesson at a future date in the interest of client relations and general goodwill. This only makes sense as teaching a student with the flu for example, will ruin the rest of your week's employment.

No more than 2 lessons may be made up due to illness within a 60 day period.

4. Rescheduling Policy
Any lesson can be cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice.

Summer Vacation and Extended Absence Policy

Clients may schedule longer absences for trips etc. 24 hours notice is required.

It is normal and typical for students and about 20% of our teachers to schedule a break in the summer. We do not enforce a notice period (see cessation of lessons) at the end of a long summer break.

5. Evaluation Period
There are no free trial lessons with Beethoven at Home but we do offer a 2 lesson evaluation period where it is easy to try out a teacher. There are no free lessons during the evaluation period and clients may choose to discontinue the lessons at any time by providing the required 24 hours notice. After the student's 3rd lesson the required 2 lesson notice period will apply (see cessation of lessons above).

Online lessons

Nancy can provide online instruction. While other platforms are possible BAH strongly recommends the use of the Zoom video conferencing platform as it is optimized for music lessons and audio quality.
