Everyone deserves to sing and express themselves through song. I believe that one of the most important things a singing teacher can do is provide a safe, compassionate and non-judgemental space for singers both new and experienced to explore their voices. Each voice is beautifully unique and worth being heard. My teaching is student-centered and tailored to the individual needs of each student. We are co-collaborators on the journey of your vocal discovery. I love empowering singers to make their own artistic choices based on what feels good and authentic to them. I help singers build a reliable singing technique with a science-based approach that is explained in simple terms and easily applied to daily singing practice. Most importantly, I encourage singers to be kinder to themselves by shifting their focus from self-judgement to curiosity and play. I strive to create a fun environment so that singers feel open to express themselves freely and authentically!
I have earned the following music degrees: Master of Music in Voice Performance/Vocal Pedagogy (University of Toronto), Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance (Western University) and Music Diploma in Voice Performance (Capilano University). I also studied piano from age 4-21, violin from age 4-18 and guitar from the age of 16-19. I started my own singing journey with private lessons at the age of 16 and have been singing and taking lessons ever since!
I have completed all 3 Levels of Somatic Voicework™, the LoVetri Method, which is an organized method of vocal training for Contemporary Commercial Music (CCM) styles which seeks to bring the voice, the person, the emotions and the mind together. Somatic Voicework™ seeks to illuminate the path of vocal artistry by conveying objective information about vocal production based on what is currently known and understood in medicine and science.
Monica is a Beethoven at Home Associate Teacher
Home visit fee: $15 minimum fee. Teachers may negotiate a higher travel fee if the travel distance is longer than they are comfortable with. Most arrangements use the minimum fee.
One-Time Family Registration: $25. This covers your entire family for life - once you're in, everyone can take lessons!
Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.
Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.
When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:
Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice
Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
