Music is a language of the soul. It expresses things that can't always be put into words. I give each student the knowledge to be able to read these wonderful messages that composers throughout history have left for us, and the skills to actively participate in music-making today.
I have a BMus. degree from Canadian Mennonite University with a concentration in Elementary music (music for kids in grade K-6). I studied piano from the age of six, violin for two years, and voice for two years in university. I completed my RCM level 10 piano exam at the age of 18, and went on to study diploma-level music with my teachers at CMU (Cheryl Pauls, Darryl Friesen, and Shirley Elias) . Through university I sang with the Women's Chorus, CMU Singers, and Chamber Choir. I toured around Canada with the CMU Singers, and also had the chance to perform with them every year with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra.

My first memories with music were as a toddler dancing to songs by Charlotte Diamond and Bobby McFerrin, frequently pressing my ear up to the speaker to hear every part of it. I loved to sing, and I also wanted to play piano too after hearing my older sisters practicing. I loved the songs in my purple Bastien book, and played through it after my dad showed me the notes, until finally my parents signed me up for piano lessons.

Home visit fee: $15 minimum fee. Teachers may negotiate a higher travel fee if the travel distance is longer than they are comfortable with. Most arrangements use the minimum fee.

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.
Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.
When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:
Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice
Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
