Learning is transformation. When we learn something new, we are transformed, even if it is just a small transformation. Transformation is not just change; it is growth. Teaching is just one effective (and often necessary) way make this growth happen. If you come into one my lessons, and you leave the same way as you came in, I have not done my job. My job, as a teacher, is to generate that exciting, world-expanding, and joyous change in you, my student, during the lesson and beyond the lesson into your life and beyond. I love teaching because I get to witness (and help) this miracle of transformation and growth in my students. Although it sounds cliche, when that lamp of learning (or light bulb) goes on above my student's head, I share in the joy of that moment. I have been blessed to be a teacher to so many thousands of students over the years, and each one is special.
I have a B.A in music from the University of Alberta. I also have a B.ED/Ad from the same university. I have taken many years of guitar and voice lessons as well as music theory and harmony. I have attended many songwriting seminars over the years with top songwriters. I am a life-long learner and am always learning new things such as this past month I have learned how to program drums tracks.
Publishing 20+ songs in Nashville stands out for me. Hearing my songs on the radio also has been wonderful. Creating and maintaining my musical catalogue, recording well reviewed CDs and singles is also very rewarding. I have been nominated for several Canadian Recording awards including the CMA, and CFMA.
I started teaching guitar when I was just 13 years old. I was a student at the Western Conservatory of Music and because I was advanced, I was offered to join their teaching staff and was given, at first, several classes of beginner guitar students. I loved it, and right from the start, I could see that I had a special kind of knack for it that came naturally. Some 60 years later, I still love teaching. But, when we talk about special skills, aside from my own background in education, I would say that being a professional performer definitely has given me an edge in my teaching. I started playing professionally (for money) when just 15 in a wedding/dance band. I have never stopped doing this and have managed both teaching and professional playing all these years. My years as a Jr/Sr Band teacher also are an asset for me.

Home visit fee: $15 minimum fee. Teachers may negotiate a higher travel fee if the travel distance is longer than they are comfortable with. Most arrangements use the minimum fee.
One-Time Family Registration: $25. This covers your entire family for life - once you're in, everyone can take lessons!
Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.
Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.
When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:
Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice
Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
