I earned my Bachelor of Music Degree in Jazz and Contemporary Popular Music from MacEwan University. Throughout my time at the university, I had the privilege of holding the lead trumpet chair in the renowned MacEwan Big Band I for five seasons. Additionally, I took on the roles of Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the MacEwan Trumpet Ensemble, showcasing my leadership and musical talents. My involvement extended to performing with the Edmonton Jazz Orchestra as a section member, and I also served as a regular pit musician for the MacEwan Theatre Department and various other musical productions. In Spring 2019, I was incredibly fortunate to be featured as a guest soloist with the esteemed Festival City Winds Music Society, which was a memorable highlight of my musical journey. My experiences at MacEwan University have enriched me as a trumpeter and conductor, and I am eager to share my passion and expertise with my students to help them thrive in the world of music.
Throughout my musical journey, I have been honored to receive numerous prestigious awards and scholarships that have further fueled my passion for music. These recognitions include the John K. Nikel Scholarship, a distinguished accolade presented by the Alberta International Band Festival. Additionally, I was humbled to receive the Diana Bacon Scholarship Award, generously bestowed by Diana Bacon and the Edmonton Youth Orchestra. My dedication to excellence has been acknowledged with the Maestro Award from the esteemed Seattle WorldStrides Heritage Festival, as well as the Band Director's Award from Harry Ainlay High School, recognizing my outstanding contributions as a musician. Scholarships such as the Alexander Rutherford Scholarship, Armand and Lucie Baril Scholarship, Jazz Band Scholarship, and Music Convocation Award presented by MacEwan University have also been significant milestones in my musical journey, providing me with invaluable support in my pursuit of musical excellence. These awards and scholarships have served as a testament to my hard work, determination, and unwavering commitment to music. They have motivated me to continuously strive for greatness and have inspired me to make a positive impact in the world of music as both a performer and an educator.
In 2009, I moved to Canada from the Philippines and began my musical journey in the public-school music program at Harry Ainlay High School. It was there that my band teacher inspired me to pursue a career in music, and from that moment, I knew I wanted to become a musician. Since then, I have been dedicated to growing my musical career as a performer, educator, and clinician. I had the privilege of being a regular member of the Edmonton Youth Orchestra for six seasons, which further honed my skills as a musician. Marching music also played a significant role in my musical development, and I had the incredible opportunity to perform at the Drum Corps International World Championships with both the Blue Saints Drum Corps and the Oregon Crusaders Drum Corps. As an educator, I have taught the Edmonton Sabers Marching Band for three seasons and served as an instructor and ensemble director at the Vernon Cadet Training Centre for three summers. These teaching experiences have been immensely rewarding and have allowed me to share my passion for music with others. Throughout my journey, I have had the privilege of learning from remarkable teachers, including Joel Gray, Alvin Lowrey, Bill Dimmer, Wayne Bergeron, and Paul Baron. Their guidance and mentorship have been invaluable in shaping me as a musician and educator. Currently, I am working with Raymond Baril and the Edmonton Winds, receiving a conducting mentorship, and also collaborating with Joel Gray in an assistantship/co-directing role with the Littlebirds Big Band. My diverse experiences in all aspects of music have enriched my knowledge and passion for the art form, and I am eager to share this wealth of experience with students of all levels and ages. I firmly believe that music has the power to enrich lives and inspire creativity, and it brings me immense joy to guide and nurture the musical growth of my students.
