Teaching Philosophy

As a guitar teacher specializing in classical and Spanish styles, my approach to teaching revolves around providing a comprehensive musical foundation. I believe in integrating music theory alongside technical progress on the instrument to cultivate well-rounded and intelligent musicians. Having also trained with the British Kodály Academy, I incorporate this valuable methodology into my teaching, further enhancing the learning experience for my students. From young children to adults of all ages and levels, I welcome anyone from the age of 5 to join me on their musical journey. The diverse repertoire of the guitar excites me, from the monumental suites of Bach to the rhythmic vitality of South America and Spain, and everything in between. My aim is to inspire students to explore this rich array of music, fostering a deep appreciation and enjoyment in their musical journey.

Musical Education

I hold a diverse educational background, beginning with a BSc in Biological & Medicinal Chemistry and Music from Keele University in the UK. My passion for music led me to pursue further studies, and I obtained an MMus in classical guitar performance from Birmingham Conservatoire. To enhance my teaching skills and pedagogy, I pursued additional training in Kodály musicianship and pedagogy. I had the privilege of learning from esteemed organizations such as the British Kodály Academy and the Alberta Kodály Association. This multidisciplinary approach to education has enriched my understanding of music and its interconnections with various disciplines, allowing me to offer a holistic and comprehensive learning experience to my students. My journey in both science and music has reinforced my belief in the power of education and how it can transform lives.

Our Promise to You

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.

Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.

When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.

Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:

Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice

Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
