I believe my job as a teacher is to collaborate with a student to overcome a challenge. Do you want to write a symphony? Great! Do you want to learn how to play barre chords? Let's do it! I'm on your side. With every lesson, I aim to meet students where they are. By tailoring lessons to fit their backgrounds, interests, and needs, together we create an environment that emphasizes progress over perfection. Every student brings something new to the table and I strive to use their individual strengths to build new skills in a way that is engaging, challenging, and supportive. We're here to make music, after all. What's better than that?
I have an honors BMus in Music Theory and Composition from New York University which consists of a concentration in Film Scoring and a minor in Educational Theatre. I am completing my MA in Educational Theatre at NYU as well. I've had the pleasure of studying composition as well as instrumental performance with some of New York City's established composers and songwriters (Julia Wolfe, Phil Galdston, Joseph Church, Justin Dello Joio) as well as teachers from all over the world (Antonio Figura, Beata Hlavenkova, Cyrille Oswald) Here, I developed a diverse musical background, and I learned how to tailor my teaching style to a range of students.
New York University - Honors Scholar (cum laude) New York University - Founders Day Award
Over the last 5 years, I've worked as a composer for theatre and film, meaning I get to write a wide range of styles and genres-- everything from traditional musical theatre orchestral to toy box percussion to whale noises (really!)-- and I have an extensive knowledge of music software (Logic Pro, Pro-Tools, Finale, Sibelius), studio recording sessions and the technical side of working in music. I'm excited to get the chance to share all of this with you!
Maddy is a Beethoven at Home Associate Teacher
Home visit fee: $15 minimum fee. Teachers may negotiate a higher travel fee if the travel distance is longer than they are comfortable with. Most arrangements use the minimum fee.
One-Time Family Registration: $25. This covers your entire family for life - once you're in, everyone can take lessons!
Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.
Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.
When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:
Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice
Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
