Teaching Philosophy

I can't wait to meet you and help you begin your musical journey! For the last almost ten years teaching music, my priority is ensuring that my students feel safe, empowered, creative and heard. I believe that music education carries a great number of life skills, from time management to interpersonal skills, and also learning confidence and self-esteem. I make sure that when I am working with my students, we are exploring every facet that music education has to offer. I specialize in working with students who may have unique learning or behavioural needs, and typically work with people who are just coming to music for the first time. Please get in touch if you have any questions!

Musical Education

I have a Bachelor's Degree with Honours in French Horn Performance at the University of Toronto, and completed my grade 8 in Piano with Conservatory Canada after having studied piano from age 6. I have experience working in orchestral, solo, recording and chamber music performance and have studied advanced music theory, musical skills and music history through my education. In addition to this, I am alumni of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada as well as the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra, and was a member of the University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra for four years.

Awards and Distinctions

Albert and Wilhelmine Francis Renewable Entrance Scholarship in Music, University of Toronto (based off entrance audition and high school transcript) Dean's Scholarship, New England Conservatory of Music (entrance award for Master's beginning in 2020) President’s Scholars of Excellence Entrance Award (high school transcripts) Alumna of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada and the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra

Special Skills and Trainings

As well as being a musician, I am also a mental health wellness counsellor, certified life coach, life skills facilitator, lecturer and workshop facilitator. I have a background in crisis response and mental health crisis intervention. My teaching brings relevant components from this training to make sure that everyone I work with is treated with respect and care. I ensure there is always emphasis on compassion, co-creative teaching, as well as focus on mental and physical wellbeing. If you are interested in mental skills, inspiration and creativity, healthy practicing, performance preparation or peak performance in either coaching or lesson settings, please reach out to me.

Our Promise to You

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.

Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.

When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.

Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:

Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice

Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
