At the core of my music teaching philosophy is a focus on learning the basics and creating a safe environment for students to explore and take risks. I believe that a solid foundation in the fundamentals of music is essential for growth and development as a musician. By emphasizing the importance of understanding musical concepts and techniques, I aim to provide students with a strong framework upon which they can build their musical skills. This includes teaching rhythm, sight-reading, and technical exercises that develop dexterity and control. In addition to mastering the basics, I strive to create a safe and supportive atmosphere in my music lessons. I encourage students to step out of their comfort zones, try new things, and make mistakes without fear of judgment. I believe that making mistakes is an essential part of the learning process and an opportunity for growth. By fostering a safe and nurturing environment, I aim to inspire my students to explore their creativity and express themselves through music. I encourage them to take risks, experiment with different musical styles, and find their unique voice as musicians. Overall, my music teaching philosophy centers around the idea that learning the basics and creating a safe environment for exploration and growth are crucial for students to develop their musical abilities and reach their full potential.
I am currently pursuing my Bachelor's degree in Music Performance at the University of Calgary. Additionally, I am enrolled in the Academy Performance program at the Mount Royal University Conservatory. At both universities, I actively participate in numerous large and small ensembles, including the U of C Wind Ensemble, U of C Chamber, and MRU Chamber. Throughout my university years, I have also received private instruction from Gwen Klassen, who serves as the Principal Piccolo player and Co-Principal Flute player of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. Apart from my academic pursuits, I am currently a member of the Calgary Youth Orchestra.
I have been playing the flute for over 10 years and have developed a strong foundation in various flute techniques and styles. Throughout my musical journey, I have honed my skills in areas such as tone production, breath control, articulation, and phrasing. With a diverse repertoire ranging from classical to contemporary music, I am well-versed in different musical styles and genres. I am comfortable playing solo pieces, chamber music, and orchestral works, adapting my playing to suit the specific requirements of each musical composition. In addition to my technical proficiency, I have a deep appreciation for musical expression and interpretation. I strive to convey emotions and tell stories through my flute playing, always aiming to captivate and engage listeners. Continuing my musical education and growth, I actively seek opportunities to expand my musical knowledge and skills. I regularly participate in workshops, masterclasses, and ensemble collaborations to further enrich my musical abilities. Combining my passion for the flute with my dedication to teaching, I am committed to sharing my expertise and guiding aspiring flutists on their musical journey. I believe in fostering a supportive and encouraging environment where students can develop their own musical skills and express themselves through the beautiful art of flute playing.

Home visit fee: $15 minimum fee. Teachers may negotiate a higher travel fee if the travel distance is longer than they are comfortable with. Most arrangements use the minimum fee.

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.
Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.
When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:
Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice
Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
