Teaching Philosophy

Though the trumpet can be demanding, my teaching approach ensures music remains at the forefront, no matter the content. While technical exercises are essential, I avoid solely prescribing exercises devoid of musical context. Having fallen prey to this myself, I believe in making almost every practice session, even for technique, a musical experience. It's all about preserving the love for playing and practicing.

Musical Education

I received my Bachelor of Music from Humber College in May of 2021. During my time at Humber I focused on playing in the genres of Jazz, Pop, RnB, Funk & Latin styles as well as took a liking to learning about music production and engineering. In my studies I noticeably excelled in the areas of ear training, trumpet technique and jazz improvisation. I've been playing the trumpet for over 10 years and have given private lessons on and off since the age of 16. I've been playing professionally in Toronto since 2018 performing with some of the city's finest bands such as the Alex Dean Jazz Orchestra as well as the Mike Malone Jazz Orchestra.

Special Skills and Trainings

In terms of instrument experience, I've played the trumpet for over 10 years. In addition, after 7 years of playing I had to completely change my embouchure and essentially learn how to play the horn again from scratch. That being said, I have detailed experience in discovering/developing technique on the instrument as well as how to coach yourself to emotionally deal with setbacks/plateaus. I also have much experience in the ways of interacting with children and teens of all ages. Throughout high school I volunteered to counsel summer camps as well as mentor younger kids a part of a wilderness exploration team. I've also supervised daycares with kids ages 3-6. I feel like I have a wide body of experience in mentoring/teaching kids of all ages which has really proved to be a great asset when it comes to teaching music.

Our Promise to You

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.

Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.

When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.

Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:

Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice

Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
