The most important aspect of teaching for me is to help my student form a strong bond with music. I believe that music can be witnessed in the most mundane and the most exciting settings of life. Hearing the music that just exists all around us, especially as a drummer, hearing the rhythms of everyday life, is pretty cool. I believe that jazz music has, more than most other genres, the potential for one to truly express themselves. Through improvisation, through creating little melodic lines with the limited amount of drums at one's disposal, some very beautiful stories can be told. I have a passion for sharing my knowledge and experience to anyone who'd take the time.
I have played drums since I was 4 years old. I studied jazz drumming under Jesse Cahill for 5 years at the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra's school of music. I had the pleasure of being invited to play drums for several different occasions with different VSO ensembles, including a very fun medley of West Side Story done by one of the top student string ensembles.
I have been performing jazz drumming professionally for over 8 years. I've played in a multitude of settings, from a little corner in a small restaurant to playing on the stage of the Roxy, to playing on the Jumbotron at Rogers Arena, playing as a member of the Canuck's drumline. All of these opportunities were invaluable teaching experiences to me, not only in drumming, but in how to be a performer, and how to be a good band leader/member.

Home visit fee: $15 minimum fee. Teachers may negotiate a higher travel fee if the travel distance is longer than they are comfortable with. Most arrangements use the minimum fee.
One-Time Family Registration: $25. This covers your entire family for life - once you're in, everyone can take lessons!
Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.
Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.
When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:
Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice
Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
