Teaching Philosophy

I firmly believe that the love for music should be the driving force behind one's desire to learn. I recognize that each person's musical passion may extend beyond the boundaries of traditional cello repertoire. While I have a strong foundation in classical cello, I also appreciate and embrace the versatility of the instrument in contemporary styles such as rock 'n' roll, R&B, funk, pop, and more. My commitment is to craft a personalized and tailor-made learning journey for each student, centered around their specific musical passions. Together, we will explore and cultivate your unique musical path.

Musical Education

For over a decade, I have received private instruction in both the Suzuki and Royal Conservatory methods. My mentors, Kirk Starkey and Joowon Kim, are renowned cellists who have greatly influenced my musical journey. Currently, I am pursuing studies at Fanshawe College in the Music Industry Arts program. Here, I have the privilege of learning under the guidance of esteemed professionals such as Dan Brodbeck, a Juno award-winning mixing engineer, and Moe Berg from The Pursuit of Happiness. This educational path diverges from traditional approaches, offering a unique opportunity for a more liberated and free-style approach to musical education and learning. I am excited to explore this unconventional path and embrace the endless possibilities it presents.

Special Skills and Trainings

I hold a Suzuki certification for basic music teaching, which has equipped me with essential skills to guide students in their musical journey. Moreover, I possess extensive knowledge in recording arts, enabling me to apply my expertise not only to the cello but also to various other instruments. To enhance the cello's sound and adapt it to different genres and creative ideas, I employ pedals with my electric cello. Over the years, I have gained a wealth of experience performing on the cello in both classical settings and high-energy rock environments. These diverse experiences have shaped me into a versatile musician ready to explore various musical avenues.

Our Promise to You

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.

Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.

When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.

Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:

Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice

Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
