Teaching Philosophy

One of my greatest passions in life is sharing my joy of music with others by providing guidance and sharing the skills I have learned over the years. It is most important to me that I am helping my students explore their own interests, while also providing them with the opportunity to discover new styles of music. I ensure that each lesson consists of technical exercises and theoretical concepts to support the songs we work on. I believe it is my job to help students discover what they are most passionate about and provide them with the support for their individual needs to help them achieve their goals.

Musical Education

I studied with the Humber Community Jazz Workshop program for 6 years where I studied jazz piano. At this time, I was also attending Etobicoke School of the Arts where I majored in orchestral percussion. I completed a Bachelor of Music program at the Humber Institute of Arts and Technology where I majored in jazz drumming. In this programs I have had the pleasure of studying with some of Toronto's top jazz musicians including Kirk MacDonald, Brian Dickinson, and Larnell Lewis. Most recently, I completed a Master degree from York University where I focused on composition and researching Carnatic and Jazz drumming and percussion styles.

Awards and Distinctions

Minstrel Foundation Scholarship Award (2012, 2013, 2015). Canada Jazz Award (2012). Merriam School of Music Scholarship Award (2021).

Special Skills and Trainings

I started playing music at a young age, learning Indian and jazz music from my father. With my family's band I got the chance to tour around India and Canada throughout my childhood, playing Indian, jazz, rock, pop, and fusion original music. I have since played with other jazz, hip hop, fusion, and R&B bands, and have had the pleasure of performing at the World of Jazz festival, the Beaches Jazz festival, the Toronto Undergraduate Jazz festival, and have since held a month-long residency at the jazz bistro. These performing and recording opportunities have enriched my musical knowledge, of which I am passionate to share with my students!

Our Promise to You

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.

Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.

When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.

Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:

Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice

Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
