Teaching Philosophy

It is my belief that the biggest step in achieving one’s musical goals is truly believing that all of them are attainable, because they are! As a beginner guitarist, I struggled with self-doubt, but I was lucky enough to have a fabulous instructor that taught me the power of a positive attitude. Once I adopted a positive mindset, I started to make a lot more progress on my instrument. As a teacher, I strive to inspire others to make music in the same way my instructor did. A large part of this is allowing the student to learn what they want, and at a pace which is comfortable for them. After all, the customer is always right. Imagine being a violinist and starting out with Paganini’s 24th Caprice! There’s a good chance that may not end well. It is absolutely imperative for the learning process to include successful learning early on in order to build confidence and positive reinforcement for the student. Ultimately, the ability to make music is a gift, and I hope to share that gift with as many people as I possibly can.

Musical Education

I am currently enrolled in the Music program at York University, where I am in my third year and set to obtain a BFA. My focus at York is jazz, and I have also delved into world music during my time at York, learning and performing music from the Balkan and Celtic traditions. Prior to this, I was taught by a local private music teacher starting from the age of 9. This teacher had a wealth of musical knowledge thanks to the time they spent studying at Mohawk College and York University, and educated me on the styles of rock, blues, jazz, heavy metal, and country music.

Our Promise to You

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.

Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.

When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.

Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:

Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice

Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
