Teaching Philosophy

Music is my ultimate passion and I believe everyone should have the opportunity to experience playing an instrument. The benefits to brain development, discipline and joy it brings I believe priceless. This belief has led me to volunteer for the last two decades to bring music to those who are not in a financial position to do so with the Pro-Kids organization and also work with the Canadian Cancer Society to bring music to those who need a lift and joy in their lives while fighting a terrible illness. I treat every student on an individual basis and do not just use the same books, examples and source material for everyone. I tailor a lesson plan on a case by case basis depending on what your needs and goals are and what you’re wanting to accomplish. Whether it’s a beginner looking to start their musical journey… an intermediate player looking to expand their knowledge or pick up the instrument again.., an advanced player looking to expand their theory knowledge study composition or become a professional performer…or a classical musician looking to earn their RCM certificates. Whatever your needs are I have you covered. I’m fluent in every style and I will incorporate examples of songs/bands/singers etc. that you the student are familiar with into the lessons so you will be able to play your favorite songs right away and will enjoy your practicing. I have an impeccable retention rate on students some having been with me for over 15-20yrs and counting. Many of my students have gone on to teach themselves and have become professional performers in their own right. I have over 20yrs experience teaching and have taught many students ages 5-85. I’m always available to help my students even after the lesson is over so you will not need to wait until the next lesson to have your questions answered. I’m always here to help in any way that I can.

Musical Education

I began my music study with guitar beginning my lessons at the age of 12. I started working as a session musician at 14 in the top recording studio in my town for the next several years. During that time I worked along side and learned from some of the biggest names in the music industry such as Randy Bachman, Corey Hart, Ronnie Hawkins, Kim Mitchell, Alanna Myles and others. During these sessions I was required to perform new music by sight reading and to compose music parts such as solos or progressions on the spot. The highest level of playing was expected at every session. At 15 I started performing concerts in bands and by 16 was a touring musician opening for major acts such as Nazareth,,Blue Oyster Cult, Ratt, Randy Bachman, Vince Neil among many others . I took a break from touring to attend Lakehead University majoring in classical guitar in the HBMus program. I also studied Piano,Vocal,Theory,Conducting and Composition. While in university we were required to perform regular concerts in all areas of study and also perform regularly with the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra where I was a member of the choir in a production of Carmina Burana. After university I was offered a contract by several agencies in L.A. I accepted an offer and moved to Hollywood. While there I worked as a session musician and touring musician playing for Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Jessie J, ,Katy Perry, Christina Aguilera and others. I also formed my band and began playing local clubs such as The Whiskey A Go Go, The Troubador, The Viper Room amd The Cat Club performing my original compositions . I returned to touring and was the opening act for many major artists in the industry such as Metallica, GNR,,Van Halen, Motley Crue, System Of A Down, Aerosmith, Green Day, Foo Fighters, AC/DC and many others.

Special Skills and Trainings

I studied and completed all RCM levels of classical guitar while studying in university.

Getting Started Together
