Teaching Philosophy

Music is one of the most important tools in my life for well-being, joy, freedom, and creative expression. I believe singing is a gift that anyone with a voice can claim. Using it can make you feel confident, joyful, connected to yourself and others, and can even feel like flying when everything is working properly. This is accomplished in my studio with emphasize on engaging the body and breath in order to create effortless and healthy singing techniques. We stretch the voice consistently to reach new levels of range, endurance, and sound quality without pushing the voice past its limits. The joy of using and perfecting the voice you were born with, and sharing it through story-telling and melody is my passion and privilege. Children and adults alike are welcome to join me on this adventure!

Musical Education

I have a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Alberta in Vocal Performance. This education included performing in University Opera's and master classes as well as a solo Junior and Senior recital. My teachers included Soprano Sherry Steele and Tenor John Tessier, as well as diction coach and collaborative pianist Shannon Hiebert. I have been studying voice since age 8 and have performed in local and provincial festivals as well as community musical theatre.

Awards and Distinctions

I graduated with distinction in my music program. I also received the Vienna Opera Ball Society Scholarship at the University of Alberta

Special Skills and Trainings

I have learned the David Wilson Method in my time at University to help use the body to release the potential of the voice. I also have experience in vocal recordings and have working knowledge of digital audio workshops and mic set up for those who wish to learn how to record and build songs in this way.

Our Promise to You

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.

Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.

When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.

Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:

Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice

Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
