Teaching Philosophy

As a violin teacher my aim is to support my students in cultivating a love of music, self-discipline, and their own unique creative expression. I place importance on making sure my students feel comfortable enough to take risks in learning while also becoming more and more self-directing; that they become confident in practicing efficiently and effectively. I structure my classes on the RCM curriculum; focusing on music theory, technique, ear training, sight reading, and performance. Above all I hope to make my classes a place of exploration and fun! Each student should leave my class excited by their creative journey as well as proud of what they have accomplished thus far.

Musical Education

I trained privately at Amati String Studio for 15 years with Amy Levinson; finishing my RCM examinations. I currently perform and study Persian violin. My current teacher is Sina Ettehad. Former member and first violinist of the Waseda Symphony Orchestra. I am currently a working musician. I do everything from session work (recording and arranging), performing my own music, as well as teaching violin. I have recorded with Grammy award winning producer Carmen Rizzo (co-founder of Niyaz) as well as other fusion artists such as Kaya Project and Karavan Sarai, and Dominic J Marshall.

Special Skills and Trainings

Outside of teaching I write and perform for my band, ZAMEEN-A; an experimental, concept-driven project looking to explore the poetic and deeply emotional state of “ecstatic suffering” by combining the sensual and moody expression of the violin as it is juxtaposed with the progressive textures of noise, ambient, and industrial production. My latest album Cry [No More] was presented as a 4DSOUND performance where I was able to spatialize every sound, instrument, and synth in my music to create a highly physical, immersive, omni-directional listening experience that I coin as "sound installations." I believe that my current work as a musician is demonstrative of the diverse avenues one can take by studying classical instruments. Persian violin, which I have studied for the past decade, is the prominent feature of my current work. I actively push the limits of emotionality within the structure of experimentalism and in that sense the Persian violin is a poetic choice set apart from the confines of "classical" or "world" genres. Earlier in my music career I spent a 1.5yrs living in Tokyo and performed with the Waseda Symphony Orchestra where I played first violin. Though I teach classical violin my students know of the other styles of music I write and perform. I hope that as a working musician I can demonstrate to my students that creativity and music is theirs to discover; let classical music be the foundation in which you establish work ethic, technique, and theory but let yourself express beyond what I teach you; play for yourself and take risks.
