Teaching Philosophy

I'm here to boost your musical journey and uncover the inner musician within you – a potential I truly believe exists in everyone. Our lessons will be a blend of relaxed, engaging, yet detail-focused sessions that break away from formality while maintaining discipline. My approach combines a friendly touch with a rich musical background and years of experience, setting me apart in this field. In our lessons, you'll develop musical discipline and effective practice techniques, helping you achieve results you might not have thought possible. While I follow a structured approach, I hold your musical ideas in high regard, recognizing their importance in your growth. While I often align with the Royal Conservatory of Music syllabus, I also introduce diversity into your musical journey. My main focus is classical, yet I believe that excelling in classical pieces will pave the way for tackling popular music or other genres with greater ease. Should you be interested in piano competitions or RCM exams, I'm here to guide your preparation. These experiences are invaluable for enhancing musical skills and boosting your confidence for public performances. I work with students of all ages – from young children to adults venturing into the world of piano. It's never too late to learn, and I have numerous stories of individuals starting their musical journeys later in life. While I emphasize technical piano skills, our approach is well-rounded. We'll tackle sight-reading, explore music theory, and dive into artistic expression at the piano. As music is aural, ear training will play a significant role in your lessons. You'll develop the ability to recognize chords, intervals, and more – all skills that are crucial for playing by ear. Your learning experience will be enjoyable and reignite your passion for music. There's no pressure to rush – we'll progress at a pace that suits you. Everyone has their own journey, and I'm committed to being there every step of the way. So, don't hesitate – let's begin your musical journey together, right now.

Musical Education

I have my Grade 8 in piano from the Royal Conservatory of Music (First Class Honours) and I am currently working on my Grade 9 piano certificate. I studied piano privately from the age of six until the age of nineteen and then as an adult student at the Royal Conservatory. In addition to my piano performance education, I have also achieved Grade 8 Theory at the Royal Conservatory of Music (First Class Honours with Distinction) and completed the "Teaching Elementary Piano Course" in December 2020 with a 93% grade. My teachers were all classically trained in piano performance, as is my current teacher at the Royal Conservatory, Jeannie Niokos, who holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (honours) specializing in Piano Performance (York University). Students that I have trained in the RCM curriculum have mostly achieved First Class Honours with Distinction and one has achieved the Gold Medal.

Our Promise to You

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.

Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.

When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.

Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:

Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice

Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
