My piano teaching philosophy emphasizes the development of technical skills, musicality, and creativity in the student. This philosophy involves teaching proper posture and technique, music theory and notation, and encouraging students to practice and develop their musical style regularly. I will assist in tailoring lessons to the individual needs and goals of the student and creating a supportive and positive learning environment.
I attained a Bachelor of Music Degree in Piano Performance from Dalhousie University (Halifax). My teacher was classically trained at the Juilliard School (New York, NY). My music education refers to the formal and informal teaching and learning of music, including music theory, history, performance, composition, and appreciation. It occurred in various settings, such as schools, conservatories, private lessons, community centers, and churches. I used my music education to develop musical skills and creativity to foster cultural understanding and social engagement.
I received a scholarship in my first year of university. I also received several awards from the schools music festival.
My brother gave me informal piano training at home. He made me realize that studying piano is a fun and relaxed activity. I was trained under the ABRSM system. I received the highest level in piano and theory in this curriculum. I also joined the school choir, church choir and as an accompanist to other instrumentalists. I entered several competitions for the schools music festival. I learned that developing special skills and training requires collaboration with other musicians, a combination of talents, hard work and opportunities to perform. I have the patience to teach people of different ages and ethnicity because teaching music is my passion.

Home visit fee: $15 minimum fee. Teachers may negotiate a higher travel fee if the travel distance is longer than they are comfortable with. Most arrangements use the minimum fee.
One-Time Family Registration: $25. This covers your entire family for life - once you're in, everyone can take lessons!
Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.
Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.
When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:
Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice
Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
