Teaching Philosophy

Teaching music brings me immense joy, not just as a fallback because performing isn’t always lucrative. I'm passionate about how music education enriches lives, as supported by scientific studies and personal stories worldwide. Music education nurtures life skills, emotional intelligence, and mental habits that help us grow and find happiness in daily life. My teaching philosophy centers on you—your interests, expectations, and skill level. I create a fun, relaxed environment where learning is exciting. Whether focusing on the technical side of playing or exploring music reading, harmony, improvisation, arrangement, and composition, I’m here to guide you. We can explore genres like rock, blues, pop, jazz, world, folk, reggae, and fusion, welcoming both singers and instrumentalists. Your age, instrument, and preferences shape my teaching approach. For young learners, I use materials like the Hal Leonard Guitar and Ukulele books and Disney tunes. For teens and adults, I offer resources like the Hal Leonard Guitar Method, The Royal Conservatory Series, The Berklee Series, and European methods by Emilio Pujol and others. Let's embark on this musical adventure together!

Musical Education

I studied classical guitar with guitarist Guillermo Flores Méndez, classical piano and electric guitar with private tutors, a technical career on modern guitar, a Masters Degree at Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Morelos under the supervision of Mexican composer Manuel Rocha Iturbide , and some other courses on composition, performance, and jazz improvisation with renowned musicians as Dr. Julio Estrada, Dr. Mario Mary, Soprano Frances Lynch, and Roberto Aymes.

Awards and Distinctions

I received the highest distinction on my master's degree for my research project about Genetic Algorithms applied to music composition and its aesthetic implications, music creative process and science-art integration. In the past, I participated in academic international seminars as a lecturer on topics related to education, music, art, and science. Between them: ● The Second Colloquium of Complex Thought, Mexico, 2009 ● The Third International Congress of Educational Innovation, Mexico, 2008 ● "Music, Science, and Consciousness" lecturer. Mexico, 2006-2007 ● The First International Colloquium of Art and Education, Mexico, 2005 ● The First Colloquium of Arts and Humanities, 2004. As a performer, I have played in different stages across Mexico, Palermo (Italy), and Canada such as the Latin Surrey, Make Music Edmonton, AstralHarvest, Polish, Surrey Fusion and Caribbean festivals and other local venues in Vancouver.

Special Skills and Trainings

I've had the joy of being part of the education world for 20 years, primarily as a music teacher, but I've also spent time guiding others as a yoga-meditation teacher and workshop facilitator. Over the years, my view on education has blossomed. Through my experiences with meditation and yoga, I've discovered ways to gently explore the mental and emotional layers of my students' lives during their learning journeys. I now see education as a wonderful opportunity to nurture life skills, emotional intelligence, and habits that truly enhance our lives, helping us become better, more aware, and joyful individuals. In this light, education is not just about learning—it’s a journey of self-discovery that can be woven into lessons, workshops, and various learning environments.

Our Promise to You

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.

Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.

When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.

Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:

Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice

Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
