Emily is a dedicated voice teacher providing lessons to students of all ages, from 6 to adults, exclusively online. With a current study in voice performance at UBC, Emily has over ten years of private study under world-class mezzo-soprano Krisztina Szabo. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes a holistic and judgment-free environment, focusing on body awareness as the foundation of singing. Emily's lessons are playful and light-hearted, offering a safe space for students to grow their musical skills and passion. Available for online lessons, Emily's approach is perfect for those looking to develop their singing in a nurturing and supportive setting.
I believe in a holistic approach to teaching music, especially singing. Singing starts with the body, so my lessons focus heavily on being connected, grounded, and aligned with the body - it’s our instrument after all! Lessons will begin with physical warmups, move into musical ones, and then end with working on the chosen repertoire. My lessons are a safe, judgement free space for every student to experiment and grow their skills and love for music. Music should be an emotional release - an escape from the stresses of daily life - and this is reflected in the lightheartedness and playfulness of my lessons.
I have an honours B.Mus in Voice Performance from the UBC school of music. I have experience in both performance and academic music classes - from art song interpretation to high-level music theory and musicianship. I have studied voice privately for over ten years. My teachers were all classically trained- my current teacher is world class mezzo-soprano Krisztina Szabo, which speaks to my high level of achievement. I am also experienced in choral singing - I was chosen and featured as a soloist for the Saskatchewan Honour Choir for multiple years, a member of the Fireside Singers Choir, and the UBC University Singers. I currently sing with the Vancouver Youth Choir.

Home visit fee: $15 minimum fee. Teachers may negotiate a higher travel fee if the travel distance is longer than they are comfortable with. Most arrangements use the minimum fee.
One-Time Family Registration: $25. This covers your entire family for life - once you're in, everyone can take lessons!
Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.
Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.
When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:
Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice
Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
