Teaching Philosophy
Music is a part of everyones life. Music is something that when gone we will feel its void. Everyone who has any interest in music, whether it be as a profession or as a hobby, should have the chance to learn, experiment and create. Education should be seen as a tool to help guide one to their own individual goals and something that can be an environment to experiment and learn but most importantly have fun. Music is one of the most creative forms of the arts and should be taught in the same way. It is important to demonstrate that music is meant to be interpreted and everyone will have a different emotional reaction to it, so when bringing that into education, it is important to recognize this and implement it in a way that can still have critical assessment for growth but to not take away the creative possibilities of music and the message that there is no objective right or wrong way but only ones personal opinion and goals.
Musical Education
I have a BA in performance and composition from Capilano University's jazz music program, which included classes such as ensemble practice, composition and arranging, private instrumental practice, improvisation as well as ear training and theory. I started studying music at the age of nine when I began guitar lessons. As I continued to learn the many styles of music and techniques of the guitar as well as expanding my knowledge of theory and ear training, I began teaching myself other instruments like piano, bass and drums. During my time at high school I studied with the music teacher there continuing my theory and instrumental studies alongside further music history knowledge. At Capilano University I studied jazz guitar privately with Ron Samworth and Piano with Chris Sigerson. Along with my education, I also have a well rounded experience of performing and writing music professionally.
Special Skills and Trainings
Most of my life has been surrounded by music as my father has been a performing musician for much of his life as well as my grandma and extended family. I learned a lot about music and various artists and styles as a young child through my family and it helped round out my musical knowledge own personal choices and style musically. I have an extensive resume of experience in the performing industry coming from my teenage years into my adult life. Some of those performances range from performing with the worship band at church, performing for a food drive charity and cancer fundraiser to various venues with various bands and artists around British Columbia. I also have experience in arranging and composing in many genres and styles from small ensemble jazz, big band jazz, rock, pop, folk, soul, funk and classical. All this experience adds to my education experience and teaching as I can pull many kinds of musical experiences from all sides.

Associate Teacher Lesson Rates:
Dylan is a Beethoven at Home Associate Teacher
- 30 minutes: $39
- 45 minutes: $49
- 60 minutes: $59
Home visit fee: $15 minimum fee. Teachers may negotiate a higher travel fee if the travel distance is longer than they are comfortable with. Most arrangements use the minimum fee.
One-Time Family Registration: $25. This covers your entire family for life - once you're in, everyone can take lessons!
Our Promise to You
Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.
Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.
When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:
Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice
Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
