Teaching Philosophy
I firmly believe in the profound value of a musical upbringing, as I've personally witnessed how learning music at any stage of life can significantly enrich one's cognitive abilities and soul. My role as an educator involves tailoring my approach to suit the unique goals and needs of each individual student. Whether it's enhancing musical proficiency in an academic context, supporting professional growth, or simply nurturing a recreational hobby, I'm here to guide the journey. My dedication to fostering an environment of excellence extends to creating a safe and inclusive space where students can freely express themselves, nurture their innate talents, and find joy in the world of music. I specialize in offering private lessons for saxophone and music theory, welcoming students across all levels, from beginners to intermediate and advanced learners.
Musical Education
I recently completed Master's and Bachelor's (H) degrees in saxophone performance at the University of Toronto Faculty of Music. In the spring of 2023, I was also a music theory TA at the University of Toronto. My principle teacher, Wallace Halladay, studied with Arno Bornkamp and rigorously trains the art of music interpretation and saxophone excellence. My studies were augmented by a focus in music theory in addition to conducting and interpretation from Gillian MacKay.
Awards and Distinctions
In 2022, I performed in the Iriqtus Quartet and placed third among our cohort in the final round of the Canadian Music CompetitionIn 2018, I won the University of Toronto Wind Ensemble Concerto Competition twice, both solo and with the Karisyg Saxophone Quartet, and subsequently performed with the school's wind bands. I am also a University of Toronto Scholar, Rhodes Scholar nominee, and recipient of the Harvey Botting Graduate Performance Scholarship, Herold and Jean Bohne Scholarship, Leslie John Hodgson Scholarship, Eugene Rittich Scholarship, Norman and Hinda Tobias Memorial Scholarship, Walter Homburger Scholarship, and an FMUA Individual Project Grant.
Special Skills and Trainings
I studied intense solo and group performance skills at the Université Européenne de Saxophone in Gap, France, with Claude Delangle, Vincent David, Joonatan Rautiola, Christian Wirth, Mariano Garcia, Daniel Gauthier, and Vincent Lê Quang. Furthermore, I developed high-level saxophone proficiency with Timothy McAllister at the Orford Music Summer Academy. I additionally performed in masterclasses for Arno Bornkamp, Timothy McAllister, Otis Murphy, Stephen Page, Brandon Jinwoo Choi, Sarah Jeffrey, Connie Frigo, Eric Hall, Dominic Desautels, Darren Hicks, Miles Jacques, and Griffin Campbell. Previous private lessons with distinguished saxophonists include Kenneth Tse, Chien-Kwan Lin, Taimur Sullivan, Stephen Page, Djamel Mami, and Rami El-Farrah.

Associate Teacher Lesson Rates:
Christopher is a Beethoven at Home Associate Teacher
- 30 minutes: $39
- 45 minutes: $49
- 60 minutes: $59
Home visit fee: $15 minimum fee. Teachers may negotiate a higher travel fee if the travel distance is longer than they are comfortable with. Most arrangements use the minimum fee.
One-Time Family Registration: $25. This covers your entire family for life - once you're in, everyone can take lessons!

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.
Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.
When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:
Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice
Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
