Teaching Philosophy

Music is core to humanity and I believe that anyone can achieve the level of excellence they desire in music with great guidance, support and love for music. I personally tailor my overall lesson plan to each students goals be that playing around a campfire all the way to being a professional musician who performs or records and everything in between. Each student has a different vision of what they are looking for from themselves in music and I believe in honouring and respecting that vision to bring it to life. I aim to make lessons for all ages both joyful and informative without cause for undue anxiety. Private lessons can be stressful and intimidating for any new student and this is why I feel that online lessons are such a positive way to learn. Instead of being brought to a new and strange space, students are free to be themselves in their own homes while diminishing stress, anxiety, travel time and the lack of productivity that comes with all of that. Let's have fun and make music together.

Musical Education

I have a BA in Jazz performance from Capilano University, in which I studied both Guitar and Voice. While there I performed in both of the top instrumental and vocal groups, The A-Band for 5 years and Nitecap for two. At school I studied and performed with many of Canada's top jazz musicians which included many Juno award winners. I studied guitar, bass, and voice from the age of thirteen until graduating from Capilano in 2012. Before studying jazz I studied classical guitar performance as well as took classes in Theory, Ear training and Composition. This has lead me to numerous recording and performance opportunities including the CBC, Cirque Du Soleil and many jazz luminaries.

Special Skills and Trainings

I have extensive education experience around theory, composition and songwriting that allow us to focus not just on the practical elements of learning and instrument but also in how our instrument fits inside the structure of music as well as how to create our own vision for what our musical vision could become.

Our Promise to You

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.

Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.

When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.

Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:

Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice

Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
