It is my philosophy that the purpose of schooling and education is the development of human consciousness and awareness. Due to this philosophy I also strongly support the idea that “every kid needs a champion.” I believe these two ideas work together in order to develop human consciousness and awareness because a teacher must support their students and make them feel welcomed and safe in their classroom every day. To learn any subject a student must first feel safe to ask questions and make mistakes but, further, in order for a student to develop their awareness and consciousness of the human condition these conditions must also be met. I believe there is no better vehicle for developing human consciousness and awareness than music. Music is such an incredibly powerful tool that combines emotion, physicality, logic, critical thinking, group/team work and independent study. Music is absolutely essential to being human.
I have a Bachelor of Music Degree from Queen's University and I graduated on the Dean's Honour list, receiveing several convocation awards including "Most Accomplished Composer." After attaining my B.Mus from Queen's I then received my Master of Music from the University of Calgary where I focused on Composition, Theory and Performance. I won several awards during this time from outside of the school while participating in competitions. I have had performance of my pieces by some famous musicians and ensembles. I am currently persuing my Bachelor of Education with a focus on Music at Western University and I will graduate in 2023. I have been studying music for 20 years now and have been teaching for over 10 years. I love every aspect of both subjects and love sharing my passion with others!

Cavan is a Beethoven at Home Associate Teacher
Home visit fee: $15 minimum fee. Teachers may negotiate a higher travel fee if the travel distance is longer than they are comfortable with. Most arrangements use the minimum fee.
One-Time Family Registration: $25. This covers your entire family for life - once you're in, everyone can take lessons!
Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.
Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.
When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:
Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice
Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
