I welcome any student with a keen interest in flute playing who is motivated to learn and willing to make a commitment to themselves. My main motivation in lessons is to find joy in creating music together and to fulfill your long and short-term flute goals. I can help you prepare for auditions, RCM exams, ensemble music, and overall help your playing rise up to the next level. My goal as a teacher is to ensure that you leave each lesson having learned something new and to help guide you on your way to becoming an independent flute player. I look forward to meeting you!
Music has been a part of my entire life and I can’t imagine my life without it. I started piano when I was four and started flute in middle school when I was eleven. When it was time to decide what to study at university, music was my first choice, without question. I graduated from McMaster University in Hamilton, ON with top marks where I specialized in flute performance and music theory. Throughout my undergrad I also completed my Grade 10 Exam in Flute Performance and my ARCT in Piano Performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music. Throughout my fluting career I have studied with Leslie Newman, David Gerry, and Sara Traficante in Canada and Helen Whitaker and Daniel Shao in England. My ensemble experience includes being in the University of Leicester Orchestra (England), the Toronto Youth Wind Orchestra, the Hamilton Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, the McMaster University Chamber Orchestra, the Dundas Valley Orchestra for four years, the National Youth Band of Canada, and Symphony Burlington, as well as being in numerous chamber music ensembles For piano, I have studied under Shoshana Telner, Cecile Desrosier, and Lois Simmons. I have also accompanied singers and instrumentalists.
For my undergraduate degree I was on the Dean's Honour List for all four years. Additionally, I have been granted the: Dean’s Medal for Excellence in Humanities Scholarship, McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada; the Undergraduate Student Research Award, McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada; The Joan Frances Bowling Scholarship, McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, The University (Senate) Scholarship, McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada; The McMaster Honour Award, Level 2, McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada; The Joan Frances Bowling Entrance Scholarship, McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada; The Entrance Scholarship, Orford Arts Centre, Orford, Québec, Canada; The Glenn Mallory Student Scholarship, Dundas Valley Orchestra, Dundas, Ontario; and The Canada Young Artist Scholarship, Dundas Valley Orchestra, Dundas, Ontario, Canada.
Throughout my fluting career I have also attended the Orford Academy of Music and Domaine Forget, both located in Quebec, Canada. At Orford I studied with Jocelyn Roy and Jennifer Gunn and attended masterclasses by Robert Langevin, and at Domaine Forget I studied with Jacinthe Forand and Marie-Andre Benny and attended masterclasses by Philippe Bernold and Timothy Hutchins. I have also attended a 5-day masterclass with Israli flutsit Ory Schnoer who runs FluteInWien and have attended several Flute Gym Live sessions with Scottish flutist Stephen Clark.

Home visit fee: $15 minimum fee. Teachers may negotiate a higher travel fee if the travel distance is longer than they are comfortable with. Most arrangements use the minimum fee.
One-Time Family Registration: $25. This covers your entire family for life - once you're in, everyone can take lessons!
Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.
Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.
When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:
Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice
Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
