Teaching Philosophy

Through my experience in Music Therapy, I have learned how to forge connections with students, fostering an environment that eliminates power imbalances and bolsters self-confidence. I believe that every student should have the opportunity to choose the repertoire they want to play, and why it holds significance to them. I begin my lessons by having a conversation with the student about what goals they have for themselves, and a warmup to develop technical skills. I believe that enjoyment of the music is equally as important as practice. In my teaching approach, I prioritize creating a safe and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable expressing their thoughts and exploring new pieces or techniques. In my studio, I am committed to ensuring that students can enjoy the repertoire they play without feeling anxiety about practicing. I enjoy working with students collaboratively to create goals and learning strategies.

Musical Education

I am currently completing my Bachelor's of Music therapy at Wilfrid Laurier University. When I was about six years old, I began playing my primary instrument, the piano. I have a classical background and training, and also play the guitar for music therapy. I was a part of orchestra and choir from the age of ten until eighteen. These experiences helped to develop my ear for music and passion for other genres.

Special Skills and Trainings

I have always had a passion for listening to and playing music. Neither of my parents played the piano, and I began when I was about six years old. Throughout the years, I studied with private instructors. I also learned the violin and played in an orchestra and sung in a choir which helped to develop my ear skills training. These experiences led me to become a tutor at Laurier for a skills and dictation class. I have taught group piano lessons for children ages 6 through 12, and have experience in teaching privately for students ages 13 and above. These experiences have helped me to work with all populations and connect with students in new ways. I am very passionate about all genres of music, and encourage students to play repertoire that is significant to them!

Our Promise to You

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.

Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.

When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.

Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:

Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
