Music stirs us when it is the perfect synergy of rhythm, sound and movement. In daily life we learn volumes about music, from sensing emotions to moving rhythmically with a crowd; with formal training we learn to understand and speak it ourselves. By understanding how the elements of music work together and identifying the movements necessary to create them, we become fluent music-makers both by ear and by sight. Beginner to advanced, my lessons train students to create music that feels alive by combining natural musicality with a strong musical understanding.
I have attended the following schools and earned the following degrees: McGill University, Master of Music; Canadian Mennonite University, Bachelor of Music. My principle teachers have included Dr. Stéphane Lamelin, Dr. Kyoko Hashimoto, Dr. Cheryl Pauls.
In addition to numerous entrance awards at McGill and Canadian Mennonite Universities, I received: Social Science and Humanities Research Council Graduate Grant, 2017-2018 - A grant to conduct a lab research study on how adults and children learn differently when learning to play the piano with digital software. Verna Mae Janzen Music Competition - First prize in an undergraduate open instrument competition. Private music awards: Phillip and Anna Wiebe Music Scholarship Abner Martin Music Scholarship
I grew up in a small but musically vibrant town playing for choirs, bands, churches and ballet classes from a young age. This matured into a varied musical life where I have produced multi-sensory classical concerts and concert series, been part of eclectic fusion bands, performed as a singer-songwriter, gone on tour, and worked as a musical director conducting choirs and arranging music for various bands and ensembles. Currently I am a ballet pianist for Ballet Divertimento and The National Quebec Ballet School in Montreal, allowing me to utilise the skills I have developed until now as I perform, arrange music, improvise and mix genres. While living in Quebec, I have further gained experience teaching piano lessons in French and teaching English as a Second Language to international adults and children online.

Home visit fee: $15 minimum fee. Teachers may negotiate a higher travel fee if the travel distance is longer than they are comfortable with. Most arrangements use the minimum fee.
One-Time Family Registration: $25. This covers your entire family for life - once you're in, everyone can take lessons!
Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.
Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.
When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:
Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice
Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
