My teaching approach is based on 2 questions that put the student in the driver's seat from the very first lesson: "Why are you here?" and "How can I help you achieve your goals?" These questions serve to make the student's own interests, projects and initiatives the driving forces behind their work and progress. Fun comes first—because developing one's musicianship is very serious business, and because it requires our highest-quality attention. Excellence and perfection are worlds apart, and only one of those is worth reaching for. I make that important distinction clear to my students, encouraging them to lean into the mistakes and risks required to level up their skills and musicianship. I specialize in jazz and improvised music, but I'm a versatile player who loves and teaches many different styles. Ask me!
PRIVATE STUDIES AND/OR MASTERCLASSES studies and/or masterclasses with Tariq Harb, Ben Monder, Jonathan Kreisberg, John Stowell, Mike Rud, David Liebman, George Garzone and others (2011-present); harmony and improvisation with Steve Amirault (2011-2015) CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY, Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), Jazz Studies and Performance (guitar); studied with Greg Amirault, Gary Schwartz, Jeri Brown and others; involvement in jazz, contemporary classical and electroacoustic classes and projects (graduated 2011) CÉGEP MARIE-VICTORIN, Music/Jazz Performance; studied wth Pierre Côté, Greg Amirault, Frédéric Alarie and others (attended 2002-2005)
My professional skills include live jazz performance, production management, arts administration, music education and more. (We musicians wear many hats!) Musically, here are a few topics I've studied in great depth: • strategies for developing independence between the guitar and voice (for singers who play/players who sing) • improvised solo jazz guitar performance (standards à la Joe Pass and more) • advanced adaptation of vocal performances for the electric guitar • music transcription and notation, with a focus on jazz solos and guitar notation • advanced knowledge of Finale as pertains to the guitar Outside of music, I also work as a visual artist, creating original pieces of contemporary Indigenous beadwork (and managing the e-commerce website I built this past year to showcase and sell my work).

Home visit fee: $15 minimum fee. Teachers may negotiate a higher travel fee if the travel distance is longer than they are comfortable with. Most arrangements use the minimum fee.
One-Time Family Registration: $25. This covers your entire family for life - once you're in, everyone can take lessons!
Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.
Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.
When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:
Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice
Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
