Teaching Philosophy

I take a holistic approach to teaching, looking at the whole person. I have a true passion for working with young children and believe that music is integral to a child's early development as well as being an enriching part of life as an adult. Music lessons should always be a fun safe place to explore the sound world and express oneself. Music can be a physical endeavor as well as mathematical and linguistic. It is a form of communication and expression and is a universal language that should be accessible to all. I accept students of all ages and abilities, and hope to bring you joy as well as a challenge in every lesson.

Musical Education

I have a Bachelor of Music from the University of Newcastle. I studied classical voice for many years and while at University expanded into operatic roles. I have extensive choral experience performing evensong at Winchester Cathedral in the UK growing up and later as a member of Sydney Philharmonia (the resident choir of Sydney Opera House). Although I am classically trained, I am comfortable teaching other vocal styles and I have done so for many years. I believe that a classical training is the basis of good technique. I have played in national flute choirs for many years and later directed them. I love the flute as its own accompaniment and have composed many works for flute and flute choir. I believe that the flute family is a great place for young children to begin their musical journey.

Special Skills and Trainings

I have been training in music since I was 7 years old and completed ABRSM Grades 1-8 in Flute and Voice as well as Grade 4 Piano and Grade 5 theory growing up in the UK. I have a passion for early childhood music and have experience working in early childhood settings - completing 2 years of an early childhood teaching degree before transferring to music. I also have a keen interest in music therapy and have completed a course (in music therapy) from Berklee College of Music.

Our Promise to You

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.

Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.

When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.

Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:

Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice

Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
