I often get asked this question: "Alia, why do you sing?". Truth be told, my answer is as follows: "because singing is easier for me than speaking". Although I consider myself a good communicator, performing and singing bring out the most expressive and joyful side of me. I believe that music exists to bring out the best in people. The voice requires technical care so that singers can work towards a sustainable vocal sound. I will try to focus on establishing healthy habits for vocal technique, such as suggesting warmups during the lesson or for at-home practice. Additionally, what I call the "basic building blocks" of learning a song (ex. pitch, rhythm, and dynamics) help establish musical comfort. I will combine both technical and dramatic focus in lessons. Safety and respect will also be key elements in lessons. Students should feel that voice lessons are not an overly intimidating or nerve-wracking experience. Whatever the students' goals, I want to ensure that singing is a fun and rewarding experience!

Name: Alia (Full name will be provided upon registration)

Age: 22

Gender: female

As of June 2025, I will have completed a Bachelor's degree in classical voice performance from the University of Toronto! Classes that I have taken include German, Italian, French, and English art song. The classes aforementioned taught me the basics in phonetic pronunciation for classical singing in these languages. I had the privilege of being a part of the University of Toronto Opera undergrad ensemble, which entailed singing as a choir member in Operas, and participating in aria masterclasses and dramatic classes. Before University, I partook in about four to five years of private voice lessons, which taught me the foundations of dramatic and vocal technique. I was a proud member of the Canadian Children's Opera Company for nine years, having sung lead and choral roles in their annual children's operas. I look forward to working with you, wherever you are in your singing journey!

Recipient of the Robert William Bygrave Voice Studies Bursary at the University of Toronto. RCM Level 8 Theory, and RCM Level 7 and 8 Voice.

I also have some musical theatre experience. I had the pleasure of being apart of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical "Cinderella" with the Unionville Theatre Company in early 2020 playing the role of "Lord Pinkelton". The same year, I was also apart of "One Song Glory", which is a 4 week (weekends only) online musical theatre training course with the Musical Stage Company. Additionally, I took a University course entitled "Piano Vocal Masterclass in Musical Theatre, Jazz, and Contemporary Commercial music" in 2024. I also participated in a vocal event with the University of Toronto called "An Evening of Music from Stage and Screen" in 2023 singing "A Lovely Night" from "Cinderella". Although I am not qualified to teach belting technique or high level musical theatre repertoire, I would say I do have experience beyond learning classical repertoire and could help students some of the fundamentals of CCM (Contemporary commercial music) genres.

Rates and Studio Policies
Registration Fee: $25.00 (One-time lifetime registration fee may be used by all family members)

Rates for instruction:
30 minute private lesson: $39.00
45 minute private lesson: $49.00
60 minute private lesson: $59.00

Travel charge: additional $15.00 per visit (for lessons in a client's home as opposed to my studio)

1. Cancellation Policy
Lessons not cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice are billable to the client and payable to the teacher. This does not of course apply to travel fees unless the notice is effectively given at the door and the teacher has travelled to the location.

2. Cessation (quitting) Policy
A client must provide a 2 lesson notice period to stop lessons. So a weekly student needs to give 2 weeks of notice, a biweekly student works out to 3 weeks notice and a twice weekly student works out to a week of notice.

3. Illness Policy
Lessons cancelled due to illness or extraordinary circumstances with less than 24 hours notice remain billable to the client and payable to the teacher.

BAH teachers are encouraged to offer a make-up lesson at a future date in the interest of client relations and general goodwill. This only makes sense as teaching a student with the flu for example, will ruin the rest of your week's employment.

No more than 2 lessons may be made up due to illness within a 60 day period.

4. Rescheduling Policy
Any lesson can be cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice.

Summer Vacation and Extended Absence Policy

Clients may schedule longer absences for trips etc. 24 hours notice is required.

It is normal and typical for students and about 20% of our teachers to schedule a break in the summer. We do not enforce a notice period (see cessation of lessons) at the end of a long summer break.

5. Evaluation Period
There are no free trial lessons with Beethoven at Home but we do offer a 2 lesson evaluation period where it is easy to try out a teacher. There are no free lessons during the evaluation period and clients may choose to discontinue the lessons at any time by providing the required 24 hours notice. After the student's 3rd lesson the required 2 lesson notice period will apply (see cessation of lessons above).
