My method focuses on providing students the tools necessary to forge their own musical path and develop their own unique interests on their instrument. I like to help students discover and dive deep into music they are passionate about. I believe it is important for students to work on things that interest them first and foremost in order for them to develop a good relationships with their instrument. Any technical exercises I teach to students serve to help them develop a facility in learning and playing on their own.
I have a BFA with a specialization in Jazz studies from Concordia University in Montreal and a Masters of Music in Improvisation from the University of Michigan. During my time at the University of Michigan I received a graduate certificate from the Centre for World Performance studies for researching South Indian rhythms on the kanjira (a small frame drum similar to a tambourine often used in Carnatic Music.) Before my time in university I spent a great deal of time studying African, Cuban, and Brazilian percussion alongside my drumset studies.
I have a lot of experience with world percussion outside of the drumset. I was encouraged by many of my teachers to develop skills and understanding of African/Latin percussion and spent a couple years studying South Indian rhythm under percussion master Ganesh Kumar. With Ganesh I had the opportunity to perform as an assistant clinician at the 2023 Percussive Arts Society International Convention for his workshop on Carnatic rhythm. I also have experience performing with improvised music groups and as an accompanist for theatrical performance which helped me develop an approach to creating textures and soundscapes on my instrument in addition to common musical language.

Home visit fee: $15 minimum fee. Teachers may negotiate a higher travel fee if the travel distance is longer than they are comfortable with. Most arrangements use the minimum fee.
One-Time Family Registration: $25. This covers your entire family for life - once you're in, everyone can take lessons!
Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.
Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.
When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:
Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice
Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
