Frequently Asked Questions About Our Teachers

All our teachers are thoroughly vetted professionals with formal music education and proven teaching experience. Associate teachers typically have music degrees or diplomas attained or in progress, years of experience, and are building their teaching practice. Principal teachers bring 5+ years of experience, experience within the company, minimum education requirement of a licentiate, bachelor's degree, or ARCT-type diploma, and demonstrated student success. Elite teachers hold advanced degrees (master's and higher), phenomenal professional performance credentials, or 10+ years of exceptional teaching results. Every teacher, regardless of tier, passes comprehensive background checks, provides verified references, and maintains excellent performance ratings through ongoing student feedback.

Our tier system reflects formal credentials, years of teaching experience, tenure with the company, involvement with Beethoven at Home, and specialized expertise—not just teaching ability or passion. Typically, Associate teachers are skilled educators earlier in their careers, Principal teachers are established professionals with proven track records, and Elite teachers bring master-level credentials or exceptional specializations and deep involvement. The tiers help match students with teachers based on specific goals and budgets, but rest assured that every teacher in our network shares the same commitment to inspiring musical growth. We developed the system to acknowledge the capacities of different teachers while assuring clients they receive proper value within the marketplace, without inflated credentials or puffery.

Absolutely! We understand that the teacher-student relationship is deeply personal, and sometimes a different teaching style or personality works better. You can request a new teacher at any time without penalty or awkward conversations. We do ask that after the third lesson has taken place, clients give 2 lessons of notice to the teacher if it's only a matter of preference or looking for something else. We'll help you transition smoothly within the system and lesson schedule. Many students find their perfect match on the first try, but we're here to ensure everyone finds the right fit.

Our network covers all major instruments including piano, guitar, voice, violin, drums, ukulele, cello, flute, saxophone, clarinet, trumpet, and more. Teachers specialize in various styles from classical and RCM/ABRSM curriculum to jazz, pop, rock, blues, and contemporary music. We also have specialists in music theory, composition, music technology, and early childhood music education. Whether you're preparing for RCM exams, learning jazz improvisation, or exploring electronic music production, we have expert teachers ready to guide you.

Most of our teachers offer in-home lessons, bringing quality instruction directly to you with a standard $15 travel fee for most locations. Many teachers also provide online lessons via video chat, perfect for busy schedules or remote locations. Some instructors teach from their home studios, often at slightly reduced rates. When browsing teachers, you can filter by lesson format to find options that work best for your family's needs and preferences.

Our transparent tiered pricing means no surprises: Associate and Associate Plus teachers are $39 per 30-minute lesson, Principal and Principal Plus teachers are $46, and Elite teachers are $59 for specialized expertise. Longer lessons (45 or 60 minutes) are priced proportionally, with 45-minute lessons ranging from $49-74 and 60-minute lessons from $59-89. These rates are guaranteed for at least 16 months from your start date and adjust with reasonable increases relative to inflation. For the convenience of in-home lessons, a travel fee starting at $15 per visit applies, with all billing handled centrally on a monthly basis.

While most lessons are conducted in English, many of our teachers offer instruction in French, Mandarin, Cantonese, Spanish, Hindi, Punjabi, Persian, Farsi, and other languages. This is particularly valuable for young children who may be more comfortable learning in their first language, or for families wanting to maintain cultural connections through music. Simply use our language filter when searching for teachers, or contact us for help finding instructors who speak your preferred language.

Every Beethoven at Home teacher undergoes a comprehensive vetting process including criminal identity and background checks by CERTN, verification of musical credentials, and continuous monitoring of client feedback. We continuously monitor teacher performance through student feedback and reviews. This rigorous process, combined with our tier system, ensures you're always working with qualified, safe, and effective instructors.

Most students begin lessons within 3-7 days of selecting their teacher. Our featured teachers often have immediate availability, while specific schedule requests may take a few extra days to arrange. During peak seasons (September and January), booking your preferred teacher early is recommended. Once you've chosen a teacher, they'll contact you within 48 business hours or sooner to arrange your first lesson. Our streamlined process means you'll be making music before you know it!
