Zhentong is a versatile piano teacher based in Moncton, fluent in both English and Mandarin, and specializing in piano, ear training, music theory (beginner to intermediate), and RCM preparation. With a background in Piano Performance from McGill’s Schulich School of Music, Zhentong brings a wealth of expertise from performance and pedagogy studies. Lessons are available online, at his studio, or in students' homes within Moncton, designed to develop each student’s musical sensitivity, technique, and passion.
As a pianist who studied under various eminent professors from around the globe, I have had the privilege to discover a world full of expressions, nuances, and stories hidden within the piano, and it is my pleasure to share that world with my students. Whether it is strengthening one's techniques, improving one's musical sensitivity, nurturing one's passions, or building one's knowledge, my lessons will be specially designed to develop every student's musical capacity accordingly in every aspect.
I started playing the piano at the age of 5. In May of 2018, I completed my level 10 in piano at École Préparatoire de Musique de l’Université de Moncton with a 95.5%, the highest mark in all levels in the program within the province of New Brunswick. In December 2024, I completed my Bachelor of Music at the Schulich School of Music of McGill University with a major in Piano Performance and have been trained professionally in solo performance, collaborative piano, and music pedagogy.
I am a regular performer at various music festivals and competitions in New Brunswick, having won the First Prize at the NB Provincial Finals in the Intermediate Piano category in 2017, the first runner-up “Senior Star” Award (2019) and the Outstanding Senior Piano Award (2025) at the NB Competitive Festival of Music in Saint John, as well as the “Advanced Star of the Festival” at the Greater Moncton Music Festival in 2025. I was a participant in the 2020 non-competitive Canadian Music Competition and have been a two-time finalist in the FCMF National Music Festival in the Emerging Artist Stream. Throughout my undergraduate studies at McGill, I was a recipient of the highly selective Arts Scholarship Program of ArtsNB.
I have been a guest performer at musical events such as the Christmas Special “Noël à la caserne” and Jeunesses Musicales of Canada. With over a decade of performing experience, I offer guidance on performance opportunities such as concerts, exams, and competitions. I provide tips on how to conquer one's inner fears when performing in public and unleash one's maximum potential.

Home visit fee: $15 minimum fee. Teachers may negotiate a higher travel fee if the travel distance is longer than they are comfortable with. Most arrangements use the minimum fee.
One-Time Family Registration: $25. This covers your entire family for life - once you're in, everyone can take lessons!
Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.
Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.
When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:
Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice
Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
