About Yvonne
Yvonne is an experienced Piano and Composition instructor who also covers RCM/ABRSM theory. Holding an ARCT Teacher's Diploma, she fosters creativity and skill through positive motivation, modeling, and repetition. Yvonne offers bilingual lessons in English and Cantonese, available in her Vancouver studio, at students' homes in Vancouver, or online.

Teaching Philosophy
I believe in modeling and multiple repetitions in order to master a skill. I also encourage and demonstrate creativity because of being a composer and performer myself. I instruct students to learn smaller sections and to play slower to avoid mistakes. It is also important to play hands separately in order to work on voicing, shaping of melody, and touch. I believe in motivating and inspiring students rather than intimidating and forcing them in order for them to develop a love of music for life.
Musical Education
I studied the Royal Conservatory of Music receiving my ARCT Teacher's Diploma in 2004. I also took lessons in Music Theory from notable teachers in order to teach Theory Grade 1 to Grade 10 including Harmony and History. I have taken students through exams from Grade 1 to ARCT in piano and theory achieving results as high as First Class Honours with Distinction and ABRSM piano exams from grade 1 to 8. I've also taken lessons in er-hu (Chinese lap violin), violin, and the organ.
Awards and Distinctions
RCM Highest Mark in Intermediate Grades, RCM 2nd Place in Intermediate Grades, RCM 3rd Place in Beginner Grades from Laurie Freinhofer Studio.
Special Skills and Trainings
I can teach ABRSM piano from grades 1-8, ABRSM music theory to grade 5, RCM piano from beginner to advanced, composition/pop music writing, and RCM Theory Grade 1 to 10. I have written several songs and musical pieces and you can find them on Youtube under the username chosarang. I have also transcribed many genres of music including Reggaeton, Afrobeats, Cantopop, and Persian pop. I can teach students to learn by ear or by sight.

Associate Teacher Lesson Rates:
Yvonne is a Beethoven at Home Associate Teacher
- 30 minutes: $39
- 45 minutes: $49
- 60 minutes: $59
Home visit fee: $15 minimum fee. Teachers may negotiate a higher travel fee if the travel distance is longer than they are comfortable with. Most arrangements use the minimum fee.
One-Time Family Registration: $25. This covers your entire family for life - once you're in, everyone can take lessons!

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.
Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.
When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:
Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice
Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
