As a percussionist, I mostly care about the usage of body. To make the good sound in a comfortable way. To explore the possibility of sounds in unlimited methods. I believe that the music is also a way to talk and share thoughts. If we use uncomfortable way to play music, it will cause unnecessary tension and stress on the body and music. To play percussion consistently and efficiently, also prevent injury without sacrifice the sound quality is my main musical approach. Other than the music techniques, I learned so much on team work, collaboration, being understanding, respectful, and sympathetic in music. I hope my students can feel growing and exploring more possibility on this learning journey.
I have attended in the following schools for my music study: -University of Toronto, Master of Music in Percussion Studied with Aiyun Huang, Beverley Johnston, and Charles Settle. -University of Taipei, Bachelor of Music in Percussion Performance Studied with Ya-Chi Cheng. I started learning percussion since age 5 in Taiwan. Joined wind band and percussion ensemble in the school and off-campus music studio since grade 5. Since 2020, I worked as a percussionist in Phonon Music and Cross Song Music in Taiwan. We did annual percussion ensemble concerts, school educational concerts, immersive percussion theatre, also some cross-disciplinary collaboration with dancers and actors. In U of T, I played in percussion ensemble, orchestra, new music ensemble, and was an assistant percussionist of wind bands. In 2025, I was selected in the National Youth Orchestra Canada and Nashville Marimba Sessions.
In 2020, I won the first place in the marimba solo category at the National Student Music Competition in Taiwan.
I started learning Samba music with Samba Toronto since 2024, when I started my Master's degree, and keep playing till now. I learned so much on the making drumming in the grooving and melodic at the same time. Playing the rhythm and melody in one drum. This learning process not only bringing musical knowledge to me, but also the culture and the language. Last summer, I was in the National Youth Orchestra Canada. That is my first time knowing so many talented young musicians at once. And building the connections, playing high-level repertoires together is on of the most unforgettable summers I had. In both experiences, they show me the open-minded in person and take my music expression into another level.
