Teaching Philosophy
Welcome to my violin studio! As a violin teacher, my philosophy centers on fostering the love for music while nurturing each student's unique potential. I create a supportive environment where students are inspired to explore their creativity and develop their skills. Though my primary training is in classical music, I have studied jazz, Cuban traditional music, and other genres. Your goals are my priority, and together we'll develop a personalized plan that aligns with your interests and learning style. I emphasize a strong technical foundation essential for artistic expression and growth, using a variety of teaching materials such as books from Suzuki, Maia Bang, Mimi Zweig, The Royal Conservatory of Music, Kreutzer, Fiorillo, and Mazas, among others. I also encourage students to suggest pieces from various genres for their repertoire. My students have achieved high honors in international exams and festivals. To ensure progress, I set up milestones and timelines that guide their learning journey. Lessons typically include warm-ups, reviews, ear training exercises, and a fun segment focused on the student's interests. My main goal is to help students convey their emotions and stories through their playing. By integrating performance opportunities and collaborative activities, I aim to build skilled violinists and well-rounded musicians who appreciate the beauty and power of music.
Musical Education
I have a Bachelor of Music from ISA, University of the Arts, in Havana, Cuba. I earned a Master of Music degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland under the tutelage of violinist Nancy Dahn and completed an Artist Diploma Program at the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, studying with violinists Erika Raum and Paul Kantor. Currently, I am pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Western University with violinist Annette-Barbara Vogel. My previous mentors include my father, violist Sydney Campbell, and Cuban violinists Alfredo Muñoz and Carmen Maria Vázquez. I have performed in masterclasses for famous violinists such as Ida Kavafian, Miriam Fried, Renaud Capuçon, Eva León, Arabella Steinbacher, James Ehnes, Glenn Dicterow, and Paul Roczek.
Awards and Distinctions
In 2015, I was the recipient of the first prize in the prestigious violin competition of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC), and in 2019, I was awarded second prize in the strings category at the National Competition of the Federation of Music Festivals of Canada. In recognition of my talent, the London Symphonia awarded me a Fellowship for two consecutive years, in 2022 and 2023, allowing me to perform with the orchestra throughout the season. Throughout my career, I have also been awarded important fellowships to support my studies, including The Temerty Foundation Scholarship and the Paul J. O'Neill Scholarship. I was selected by the Glenn Gould School in Toronto to play with a fine instrument from their collection, the George Chanot II violin, from 2020 to 2022. Additionally, the School of Music at Memorial University of Newfoundland entrusted me with a violin from their fine instruments collection from 2018 to 2020.
Special Skills and Trainings
I am originally from Cuba, and my qualities as a musician have allowed me to teach and perform in American and European countries. I have experience teaching both privately and through esteemed music institutions such as Long and McQuade in London, Ontario, Dixon Hall Neighborhood Services in Toronto, Kitchen Music Studios in Toronto, The Bahamas Music Academy in Nassau, The Bahamas, and the National Art School in Havana, Cuba, among others. As a performer, I made my debut in 2016 with the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba, performing P. I. Tchaikovsky's "Violin Concerto in D Major," and later that year with the Lyceum Mozartiano of Havana Orchestra. In 2022, I was invited to record J. S. Bach's "Violin Concerto in A Minor" for the Ontario Pops Orchestra's album "Breaking Barriers." In 2023, maestro Carlos Bastidas, the orchestra's director, invited me to perform again as a soloist. This time, I played Pablo de Sarasate's "Navarra" for two violins, alongside violinist Felipe Luzuriaga. My most recent chamber music performances include Charles Koechlin's String Quintet and Ian Cusson's "Five Songs on Poems of Marilyn Dumont," with renowned artists Angela Park, Rachel Mercer, Thomas Wiebe, Sharon Wei, Scott St. John, and Marion Newman.

Associate Teacher Lesson Rates:

- 30 minutes: $39
- 45 minutes: $49
- 60 minutes: $59
Home visit fee: $15 minimum fee. Teachers may negotiate a higher travel fee if the travel distance is longer than they are comfortable with. Most arrangements use the minimum fee.
One-Time Family Registration: $25. This covers your entire family for life - once you're in, everyone can take lessons!

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.
Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.
When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:
Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice
Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
