Teaching Philosophy

I am a firm believer that music should be taught in a way that allows the student to become completely and utterly fluent, as if it's their mother language. My lessons focus more on the art of composition and music theory as opposed to performance and instrument technique. I make sure that none of my students feel any pressure nor anxiety, music is to be enjoyed. No matter who I may be dealing with, there will always be respect and understanding.

Musical Education

I have been a composer for the better part of my entire life, having recently completed Sheridan's Music Scoring For Screen & Stage program. Preceding this, I studied theory and composition independently with an RCM certified classically trained pianist. I specialised in advanced harmony (Common practice era and Neo Riemannian), melodic/thematic writing, counterpoint, fugal theory, orchestration, score reading, and formal analysis.

Special Skills and Trainings

Aside from my formal training, I spent years studying the works of the great composers on my own accord, reading through symphonies and suites to analysing and breaking down theory and orchestration used in the most distinguished works in the canon. Outside of my academic and private studies, I have worked as a composer on several media projects, ranging from short films to video games. I have also worked as a composer for weddings, creating original and custom made works, ranging from short piano waltzes, to large orchestral suites.

Our Promise to You

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.

Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.

When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.

Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:

Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice

Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
