Wei offers English horn and oboe lessons in Vancouver, teaching students aged 8 through adults. With a Doctor of Musical Arts candidacy from the University of British Columbia, a Master of Music from Rutgers University, and a Bachelor of Music from Xiamen University, Wei combines extensive formal training with nearly 25 years of professional experience. Fluent in both English and Mandarin, Wei provides online, in-studio, and in-home lessons (serving Vancouver, Burnaby, North Vancouver, Richmond, and West Vancouver), along with ear training and music theory for beginner to intermediate levels.
I bring my experience and real-life stories into each lesson to make learning both practical and enjoyable. Whenever mistakes come up, we’ll explore why they happened, how to avoid them, and how to better understand them—turning errors into valuable learning moments. I want every class to feel like playing music with a friend, sharing joy and creativity. Together, we’ll embrace the fun of music, learn from each other, and keep progressing in a supportive and enjoyable environment.

For nearly 25 years, I've journeyed from student to professional, performing worldwide—from China to the U.S. and beyond—and collaborating with major orchestras like the Vancouver Symphony, Vancouver Opera, Vancouver Island Symphony, and the Kamloops Symphony. Each of these experiences, enriched by diverse cultures and stages, helps me offer students an enhanced, global perspective. Whether you're just starting out or deep into your career, I’m excited to pass on these insights, ensuring our music keeps resonating far and wide, through you and future generations.
Wei is a Beethoven at Home Associate Teacher
Home visit fee: $15 minimum fee. Teachers may negotiate a higher travel fee if the travel distance is longer than they are comfortable with. Most arrangements use the minimum fee.
One-Time Family Registration: $25. This covers your entire family for life - once you're in, everyone can take lessons!
Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.
Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.
When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:
Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice
Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
