About Tina
Tina offers piano and voice lessons for students aged 6 and up. With a degree in Music Education from the Wuhan Conservatory of Music and certification from the Royal College of Music, she brings a wealth of experience in both performance and teaching. Tina teaches in English and Mandarin, and provides lessons online and in-home for those in Victoria. In addition to piano and voice, she also offers ear training and music theory instruction at beginner and intermediate levels.

Teaching Philosophy
In early childhood music education, the fundamental belief is that music is a vital part of human development and learning. Young children, through their natural curiosity and enthusiasm, engage with music not just as a form of entertainment, but as a way to explore their emotions, develop motor skills, and enhance cognitive abilities. The teaching philosophy centers around creating an environment where music is integrated into daily activities, fostering a sense of joy and discovery. By incorporating singing, movement, and rhythm into lessons, educators can help children build a strong foundation in musicality while also supporting their overall growth. Encouraging active participation and acknowledging each child’s unique response to music validates their individual experiences and fosters a lifelong appreciation for the art form.
Musical Education
From September 2009 to June 2012, I graduated from the Wuhan Conservatory of Music with a major in Music Education, focusing on piano performance and folk song singing. Prior to that, from September 2005 to June 2009, I graduated from the Beijing College of Capital Normal University with a major in Musicology, also specializing in piano performance and folk song singing. I began vocal and piano training at the age of five under the guidance of a classical Chinese teacher, and I come from a musical family—my mother is a violinist. Additionally, I enrolled in the Early Learning and Care program at Camosun College in Canada to gain a comprehensive foundation in early childhood education. In 2019, I became a certified examiner with the Royal College of Music. I also won the gold medal in the youth group of the National Ethnic Vocal Music Competition at the International Youth "Five Continents" event and secured the silver medal in the piano competition in 2011. I was honored with the Beijing Excellent Graduate Award in 2008, earned the Beijing Teacher Qualification Certificate for Education and Psychology in 2009, and received the National Excellent Student Award in 2009.

Special Skills and Trainings
I spent my childhood watching my mother teach violin in the living room. She is an impeccable teacher with over 30 years experience as a professional violinist and a dedicated educator. My piano, voice, theory training was primarily at home, and as such, functions at a deep and natural level within me.

Associate Teacher Lesson Rates:
Tina is a Beethoven at Home Associate Teacher
- 30 minutes: $39
- 45 minutes: $49
- 60 minutes: $59
Home visit fee: $15 minimum fee. Teachers may negotiate a higher travel fee if the travel distance is longer than they are comfortable with. Most arrangements use the minimum fee.
One-Time Family Registration: $25. This covers your entire family for life - once you're in, everyone can take lessons!

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.
Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.
When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:
Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice
Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
